Does Idaho even count as a state? Only for the potatoes. Amazon or not, say goodbye to "AMC Classic". Those are just rebranded Carmikes and dead weight to the company.

Does Idaho even count as a state? Probably not. State of madness, maybe.

There is an AMC theater in my neighborhood that I never go to anymore because it's become run down. Maybe it will get fixed up and converted to a more modern style with recliners if Amazon buys them. The theater is in a good location, and was always busy when they were open, despite how broken down the place had become.

There's a more fancy AMC with recliner seats and all the new acoutrements about 20-25 minutes away from where I live, but it's part of a popular mall and parking is usually a pain in the ass. The AMC Classic I go to is closer/more convenient. Though if push comes to shove... Though there IS another fancier one about 15-20 minutes away that's not an AMC but offers the same improved seating and stuff. I'm already planning possibly having to join that one's reward program, just in case.

Does Idaho even count as a state? Only for the potatoes. Idaho doesn't even really grow that many potatoes, that was basically just a manufactured advertising/branding thing so that they could have something to be known for.

Jaws... a movie about a politician risking public lives by keeping amusements open in order to keep the economy flowing. Not an at all ironic choice of movie to play when opening theaters before it's probably safe to do so.

Apparently Amazon was circling the channel AMC not the theater chain.

Anyone else work at a Blockbuster back in their youth? I worked at one for a couple months in the summer of 2002. I was almost fired for stealing my manager's password to rent extra movies to myself. I remember telling a woman about faint rumors of 'an extended cut to Fellowship of the Ring which was supposed to come out in a few months so maybe hold off on buying the standard DVD for now' then when she couldn't find anything online about it she came back and yelled at me for being a liar. It was a fun, easy job at a shitty company that screwed people in late fees any chance they could get. Fond memories and good riddance.

They drove all my favorite rental stores out of business. They charged too much money for older movies. There were never any specials. They would stock a hundred copies of Johnny Mnemonic, and not order a single copy of Police Story. They would stock only partial collections of a series, and then say they couldn't justify stocking the entire series because not enough people rented their incomplete set. If you asked them if they'd considered that perhaps the reason people weren't renting the series is precisely because it was incomplete, they still didn't get it.

Right now the American Cinematheque owns both the Egyptian and Aero. I've seen some great flicks at both theaters. I only go maybe once a year nowadays due to work/kid but I'm always anxious to go back. In fact it was at the Egyptian where I asked my now-wife to be my girlfriend. One of these days we should get the local Los Angeles CSers to meet up at one of those places. I don't know how I feel about Netflix owning the Egyptian, though I suppose the theater being kept alive is a whole lot better than it not. I saw Dead Ringers there a couple years ago and got to hear David Cronenberg and Howard Shore speak. Experiences like those are what we need to keep going in LA. They just need somewhere to distribute their movies so that they qualify for awards season. They can continue to do those sorts of events, as long as they're still open. Netflix now owns the Egyptian variety.com/2020/film/news/netflix-hollywood-egyptian-theatre-1234619985/
