Oh, shit, that says 2021. I thought it was this year.
Anyway, that's surprising. I was sure they would stick to their guns on October.

It took The Batman’s original release date. Now the ball is on WB’s court to put Tenet in October.

Movie theaters probably stand to lose more money than they gain if they open too early. A couple of weeks of playing not overly popular movies is inevitable, but if they open months before anything new out of Hollywood they're just going to be paying staff to run theaters that no one shows up to and may well stand to lose less by keeping employees furloughed until they're actually needed.

Just because a multiplex has ten screens, doesn't mean they have to actually show a movie on every screen. If they only show two or three movies with a skeleton crew, they should be able to at least break even.

Doctor Strange and Thor are dangerously close together Iron Man and Incredible Hulk all over again Then you have Black Panther a month after Doctor Strange. There is no way the Doctor Strange date is going to stick. It's going to get destroyed Solo style. I wouldn't be surprised if they kicked it all the way to November.

Captain Marvel and Endgame were REALLY close. But you're partially correct. Black Panther would need to move to July and Captain Marvel to November.

In my view, the distance between Black Panther/Captain Marvel and respective Avengers movies benefited from Avengers hype and the fact that another random Marvel movie wasn't sandwiched between them. I don't see Marvel budging on Black Panther or Captain Marvel, since both previous films grossed a billion dollars each and they're banking on that pair soaring in the summer. Thor seems pretty locked down, as Ragnarok played strong and the "Love and Thunder" aspect seems to tie neatly into Valentine's Day. Doctor Strange is the most expendable, as it follows up one of the lowest grossing phase three movies and already has a set back production. I foresee them shoving it in a few slots before something actually sticks.

Six weeks is plenty of time. The majority of a film's ticket sales are in the first month, anyway. Thor: Love and Thunder has the Valentine's Day weekend going for it. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness has the WandaVision tie-in boosting it up.
