Sno, the wall itself is a stupid issue, that one side was clearly wrong on, but spurred on the more complex issues and discussions of the movie, but I get where you're coming from.

Yeah I know it's silly and they're completely wrong like you said, but it's more of a culmination of the tension that's steadily been brewing. Today we've had wild riots mostly centered around police and minorities, so those are larger events especially since deaths have occurred. I think the strength of Do the Right Thing is that it's something so small that acts as the catalyst, and yet it still spirals everything out of control. Each side is almost waiting for the other to do something, anything, and when it happens it's the justification for both sides to reveal how they truly feel about the other. And of course when they smash Radio Raheem's boombox, that's when it really boils over. They're stepping on his freedom of expression and identity, and yet it's their business and if they don't want you blasting music in there that's their right. So it's a great film because instead of standing in the middle it presents arguments for both sides without copping out on what it's trying to say. I can't say that about Driving Miss Daisy or Crash. I'm not a Spike Lee fan, but Do the Right Thing is an excellent film and only grows more impressive with time.

Do the Right Thing - Spike Lee's best movie Batman - a unique vision, set the tone for how the character was portrayed on film and in other media for over a decade. Sex, Lies, and Videotape - indie movie boom Henry V - one of the best Shakespeare adaptations of all time, set the tone for almost all the others since. Inspiring filmmaking. Watch the "Non Nobis Domine" and try not to tear up, I dare you. Field of Dreams - since we failed to include Bull Durham or Hoosiers, I'm taking another shot here. Iconic film. Swap out Sex Lies and Videotape for Driving Miss Daisy

Yeah Field of Dreams is too sappy and cliched for me, and I'm a huge baseball fan. Bull Durham on the other hand is probably the best baseball movie ever made. The Natural is a close one as well.

I can't believe Fiverabbit is the only one to bring up Little Mermaid, the beginning of the Disney Renaissance.

I can't believe Fiverabbit is the only one to bring up Little Mermaid, the beginning of the Disney Renaissance. I gave it an honourable mention. We already have The Lion King and I'm sure Beauty and the Beast will make the list when we get to 91. I think that's enough. 1. A Streetcar Named Desire: I'm not a fan, but this is clearly a classic and Brando's performance here is a pretty big deal. 2. The Day the Earth Stood Still: Very famous, often parodied film which set an important precedent for science-fiction films to talk about larger ideas, namely humanity's place in the universe. 3. Strangers on a Train: The premise has been ripped off a lot and while this isn't one of Hitchcock's most revered works like Vertigo or Psycho, it's still pretty acclaimed. 4. The Thing from Another World: An acclaimed film from the year that would not only inspire the awesome remake, but the claustrophobia and suspense is also likely an influence on Alien. "Watch the skies". 5. Diary of a Country Priest: The film established Robert Bresson as a major international talent and is said to have been a big influence on Andrei Tarkovsky and Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. Honourable Mentions:Ace in the Hole: I'm very close to swapping this in. It's a great movie and Wilder's harsh critique of journalism and the media rings very true today. The African Queen: A classic, but the influence seems minimal. Alice in Wonderland: It's famous now, but at the time this was not a big success. In a lesser year I would have fought for it but we have better Disney representations.

I wasn't too impressed with The African Queen, it wasn't nearly as interesting as the reputation for it. The love story was annoying and Bogart didn't work for me as the feeble boat operator. Maybe I just wanted it to be more like the jungle cruise ride at Disneyland. Not a bad movie, just more stating why I'm not putting it on my list.

The Day the Earth Stood Still
Distant Drums - Origin of the Wilhelm scream.
The Thing From Another World - probably the very first full body flame up done for film
A Streetcar Named Desire
Superman Vs The Mole Men - first theatrical feature film based on the DC Comics character (previous ones were done in serial format)

Ever since Neverending decided to stop helping putting up the united front, this thread has become a little more predictable.

Day the Earth Stood Still, The: Cool science fiction film that has stood the test of time. Strangers on a Train: One of the better Hitchcock movies The River: Cool Renoir film with some excellent technicolor A Streetcar Named Desire: A step towards Hollywood's maturation, broke out Marlon Brando and his special acting style. The Lavender Hill Mob: An excellent example of the Ealing comedies.
