Inception - messed with everyone's heads
Human Centipede - messed with people's gag reflexes
The Runaways - Dakota Fanning in a more grown up world
Let Me In - it's not often one sees stories about children vampires
The King's Speech - well researched and well done piece of history

Human centipede is 2009 by these rules, else I would have included it.

Let Me In is a remake which does virtually nothing different than the original.

Almost all of these films listed so far don't belong near a top 10 for a year list, let alone an important movies list. If we can't find five or whatever suitable we shouldn't even try and include extras.

The Social Network
Inception
Toy Story 3
Kick-Ass
Exit Through the Gift Shop
The last two... I don't feel great about. But... yeah.

Exit Through the Gift Shop Ian doesn't allow documentaries. If he did, 2010 would be a lot easier to figure out.

Dammit, I keep forgetting that rule. I'll figure out another one later, it's too tough.

I suppose we could go with that piece of junk called kick ass. It did popularize terrible hyperviolent awfulness.

I'm the biggest fan of Kick-Ass and Matthew Vaughn on this forum and I fail to see how the movie is "important".

It's no wonder why I don't normally bother with this thread.

Tbh I have no idea why you don't. It's far and away the most fun and interesting thread going right now.

Good year entertainment wise but not a strong year for important films

Well, Fighter is coming up alot. I don't agree, but in this year I guess so. We can make that third.
Then what else for 4 and 5? Are we going with 4 lions? Black swan? And make fun of Fiver, but alice in Wonderland may actually be a good option. Its success gave a lot of these over-produced fairy tale blockbusters legs.

Oh no, that's the Neverending argument for that shitty movie. It's importance is that Disney realized it had a major cash grab on their hands to adapt their beloved animated films into shallow live action versions? So we have Cinderella and Maleficent to justify that so far? I dunno, I get where you and Neverending are coming from there. But the only importance I see is that Disney realized they could make a lot more money off recycled concepts.

But I do think its shown more influence than many of the others thus far.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. I agree with what Ramplate said, it's not a bad year but not one that contains a lot of important titles either. These years seemed better for movies when we were living in them, lol.

So we have Cinderella and Maleficent to justify that so far? You're forgetting Oz the Great and Powerful, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Dumbo and there was rumors of a Genie movie.

They could make 50 more movies and it doesn't really change my stance that it's a cash grab by Disney and the importance is more related to their shareholders than a place in cinematic relevancy.

Except an entire generation of children are growing up with these movies and in 20 years they'll fondly remember them.
