Unless Justin or Ian also vote for Good Will Hunting, Starship Troopers is the winner.

Next year, Ian!
Also, are you planning on updating the first post with the ongoing list, or posting as we go along?

1. Dr. Strangelove: No brainer, the definitive reference point for dark political satire. 2. I Am Cuba: An awesome movie with shots that have been openly referenced in multiple movies. 3. Band of Outsiders: One of Godard's more popular and accessible movies. Also the namesake of Quentin Tarentino's production company. 4. Fistful of Dollars: A much referenced film that brought the Spaghetti western to the masses and made Clint Eastwood a star. 5. A Hard Days Night: Not a movie I particularly admire, but its depiction of the band is iconic and its handheld energy has been influential.
Honorable Mentions Goldfinger: Solidified what to expect from a James Bond movie and set the template for the campy and outsized Bond entry. However, I'm not sure how much influence it had outside of the Bond franchise and in the wider world of cinema. Woman in the Dunes: Brilliant and weird little movie, maybe a little too weird to have influenced other movies. Onibaba: Cool Japanese horror film, which had probably had some influence on that genre. The Naked Kiss: Down and dirty little Samuel Fuller movie. Its companion film Shock Corridor is probably a better candidate to show up on a list in its year.

Goldfinger- The best Bond, and what really launched the film craze for the character. Mary Poppins- Constantly referenced in pop culture and Dick van Dukes accent really posses off Brita, so that's a plus. Dr Strangelove- Brilliant take on war, the military industrial complex, and still relevant today. The Pink Panther- One of the best comedic performances ever put into film. Seven Up! - launched a landmark documentary series and carries substantial influence even now in how documentaries are made.
Honorable Mention:
A Hard Days Night - Yeah it's part of the Beatlemania thing, but it's nothing special. Fail-Safe -

Goldfinger: However, I'm not sure how much influence it had outside of the Bond franchise and in the wider world of cinema. Really? Not even the credits? A Hard Days Night - Yeah it's part of the Beatlemania thing, but it's nothing special. I don't care for it, but it was a big deal in the progression of British humor in film.

This thread would be a great reference point for the film club.
Dracula, you always produce something out of left field that sounds so interesting. Damn, I need Netflix.

The National Film Registry says Dead Birds Dog Star Man, Part IV Dr. Strangelove Empire The March Marry Poppins Nothing But a Man Parable Point of Order The T.A.M.I. Show I say Dr. Strangelove A Hard Day's Night A Fistful of Dollars The Flesh Eaters (a/k/a the first American gore movie) Goldfinger And if we have another "5th movie battle", then my vote goes to Mary Poppins.

I think we should agree one Bond movie should be in this collection of ours and that it should be Goldfinger.

I think we should agree one Bond movie should be in this collection of ours and that it should be Goldfinger. OF COURSE. And not just Goldfinger. Thunderball should be consider as well when we get to 1965. And, The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977. As for GoldenEye and Casino Royale, we'll wait and see. GoldenEye might get some love because it's linked to one of the greatest, and most important, video games of all-time.

I would go with Dr. Strangelove Mary Poppins Goldfinger I Am Cuba The fifth spot is tough. Fistful of Dollars as the first major spaghetti western? Pink Panther as comedy classic? Hard Days Night as a document of that time period?
Seven Up is also an excellent pick tbkstink, which brings up the question of whether or not to include documentaries. I've for not including them myself.

1. Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb!: Arguably the greatest comedy of all-time and certainly the bravest, Dr. Strangelove is a masterpiece unlike anything else ever made. It's full of unforgettable moments, characters, and is still seen as the peak of political satire on film.
2. Goldfinger: James Bond had been successful before, but Goldfinger brought the series to a new plateau. The film also introduces a lighter touch to Bond and began to make his adventures more fantastical. The film is full of iconic moments too. One the average person thinks of James Bond, they're thinking of Goldfinger.
3. A Fistful of Dollars: The first major spaghetti reference and the arrival of Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone. The film loses a lot for being so blatantly stolen from Yojimbo, but the cultural splash Fistful made is all its own.
4. A Hard Day's Night: I'm not crazy about this film, but it did have a unique influence. It's also interesting that the film is a product of Beatlemania that simultaneously captures it.
5. I Am Cuba: Many filmmakers have openly talked about the influence this had on them. I've never seen it, but I'll take Dracula's word that it's also really good.
Honourable Mentions
Mary Poppins: A very popular and iconic movie, but the other films just seem to be more important.
Fail-Safe: I love this movie, but it will never be able to escape the shadow of Strangelove.

Mary Poppins: A very popular and iconic movie, but the other films just seem to be more important. Mary Poppins was the most successful movie of 1964 and Walt Disney used the profits to finance Disney World. Then, in the early 2000's, five members of the ComingSoon.net forums decided to meet up in Orlando and have the adventure of their life. If you were to go back in time and prevent Mary Poppins from happening, JBond would probably be his own grandfather right now. So ask yourself, Mr. Cooper, IS there a movie more important than Mary Poppins?

Seems plausible. I don't know enough about science to refute it, so I'll agree with it.
