Instead of making me watch a 50 minute video, how about you tell me what the point of it is.

Merry Christmas Eve

I just finished re-watching Last Jedi. Maybe Dracula is right and this is the worst one in the Sequel Trilogy. Maybe. There’s huge portions that are utterly pointless. The slow speed chase (that’s actually a high speed chase). How clever. Poe versus Laura Dern. Finn and Roses’ Casino Adventure. Benicio Del Toro and the Codebreaking Heist that goes no where. Last Jedi is, without a doubt, the most boring of the trio.

That said, there are many bright spots. The opening action scene is great. Some of the Luke-Rey stuff works. All of the Rey-Kylo stuff works. The final battle in the salt planet is great - if you overlook the Love Conquers All moment. I even like the little kids at the end.

But... like with Rise of Skywalker, it’s very misguided. I don’t mind Luke being disillusioned with the Jedi and resisting to train Rey. It just wasn’t handled well. Rian Johnson was so obsessed with subverting expectations that he missed very obvious plot points. Luke isn’t wrong. The Jedi were trash. That was kinda the point of the Prequels. The Jedi were so politicized that it drove Anakin to the Dark Side. Instead of saying that Luke sensed the darkness in Kylo and had a moment of weakness, why not simply say they were ideologically conflicted. Luke attempted to rebuild the Jedi, as they were, and faced similar pitfalls and that drove Kylo away. That also fits into Kylo’s narrative that he’s caught in between the light and dark, and also, lends itself into Johnson’s concept of burying the past. Kylo wants the Jedi, the Sith, the First Order and the Resistance all gone so he can build from scratch. You could have turned Kylo Ren into a bit of a James Bond villain. You could have also used that to take the series back to its samurai/western roots. Last Jedi should have been a Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars type movie. Have Kylo play all sides against each other - and have Rey caught in the center of it. I still maintain this movie should have ended with Rey and Kylo joining forces. That should have been the cliffhanger.

Let's just agree Maz Kanata is the worst character in the series. Worse than Jar Jar. Worse than Rose.

Yeah, every time I re-watch Last Jedi, the weaknesses stand out more.

And yet you loved Rise of skywalker.  Cooommeee OOOONNNN!
