Gave up on Eye of the World. No promises I'm returning to the land of reading, but I'll either try Red Rising next or take off where I left The Expanse with Book 6. What bothered you about Eye of the World?

Ehhh, it's a bit dated. The show made some necessary changes. And I just wasn't enjoying it and the characters too much.

That's fair. Its probably been more than 12 years since I read it, but only about 2 or 3 years since i finished the series. As a whole the series is great, but its a lot of legwork.

Egwene is nagging Perrin the whole journey and Perrin's intermonologue basically equates to "Ugh. Women."

OK, I finished Red Rising, and I have mixed thoughts.
It started off very ordinary and kind of stayed there for a long time. Like a rip off of Hunger Games and Ender's Game. But the second half was very enjoyable.
And not to sound like a broken record, but there were some very questionable choices regarding men and women. This really felt tailored toward young men.
I mean, I'll probably read the next one. I don't have anything else to read.

It's the worst one of the bunch. I skip it when I relisten. Go forth. Become the howler. Hail Reaper.

The second book is in the mail. .... And??? Just finished off the Pulitzer prize winning lonesome dove - what a fantastic Western. Trying to find the TV series to pirate somewhere but it's harder than it first appeared. Looking to get into some classics and maybe some non fiction - my hold list remains at about 13 but nothing really grabbing my interest just yet.

I think all episodes of Lonesome Dove are on YouTube although the quality may not be super hires. But the series itself is fantastic.

Patiently waiting my turn for Candice millards new river of gods book... She's by far the best non fiction writer working today and that's no small feat.
Finishing up the bell jar (better than that shit catcher in the rye), polished off the new nick Offerman book (it's fine for a quick read, nothing outrageous or terribly interesting, he repeats his own ten dollar words far too often for my liking though, a small peppering is nice but when it's repeated every handful of chapters... It sounds pretentious)
And maybe this time I'll finally finish blood meridian. Maybe the only book left of cormacs I haven't read yet.

Blood Meridian is such a wild book. I actually read Outer Dark a couple months ago. That's another trip, not quite sure what the point of it was other than taking another ride into desolate McCarthy nihilism but it was an interesting read to say the least.

It's referring to Trump's lie that the election was stolen, and basically goes into the disinformation machine the right wing is pumping out and how they're getting those messages to people.

Great Pittsburgher and historian David McCullough has passed away. His name is on the 16th Street bridge, he's had some controversy but is largely widely respected as a leading historian and author.
Starting jade city and the secret life of trees.

Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard.
About the James Garfield assassination, interweaving chapters about the asssassin Guiteau and Alexander Graham Bell, along with ones focused on Garfield's political rise.
About 40% of the way in, but it's captivatingly written. Has my attention even though I'd remembered much of the broad strokes.

Read her whole biblio I think destiny is her finest piece. Would like a movie adaptation honestly. Seek out her other 3 works too. Excellent all around.

Putting jade city on the back burner - it's okay just nothing to really grab me and I'm over 25% done. Gonna move on to Evan winters rage of dragons - first few chapters got me intrigued.
The hidden life of trees was incredible though. Highly recommend. Not necessarily new for anyone who pays attention to these things but fascinating. Even if you have a passing respect for trees I would highly recommend it.
Debating a rerun through red rising since he just announced the last 2 books coming (4th in the second set was a surprise) with light bringer coming out in may.
