Doing a listen through of the first law trilogy, had no idea Abercrombie came back to the universe with another trilogy and the finale is coming out this year.
Also have the foundation books back on the wait list, it's been so long since I last read them I'm curious how they hold up.

I think prelude to foundation is a real useless novel. There's some stuff and it gives you some context on Harry seldon but it's all so convenient, never write a prequel after the original stories, even for a master like asimov it's fucking hard to pull off.
The first law series might be the best fantasy series of all time though, catching up on a few of the books I guess I never got through. I've done about 4/10 so far and they just keep getting better. It's one of the best universes ever created if you ask me. And the audio books read by Steven pacey are truly some of the best audiobook performances I've ever experienced.

Forward the Foundation was alright, if I recall. Interesting ending.

I'm smashing my way through the dune series... I'm up to book 4 and its starting to really fade.
How is this the most popular scifi series of all time? There's so much spiritual mumbo jumbo. It's off putting as hell for me for some reason.
I'm going to finish god emperor of dune but I'm not holding out too much hope the last 4 really bring this thing back to the top.
Reading the expanse finale alongside (reading expanse, listening to dune), obviously they are vastly different stories but can't help but compare, ones got a cast of characters so interesting and different you feel for them every page.
The other has a giant worm as God emperor for 3k years with new characters they rush to get you to care for, minus the golas. Meh.

As for Expanse, let me know when you finish, we can discuss.

I'm reading Reaper's Gale, the 7th book in the Malazan series. And it is a slog.

2/3 the way through. I don't want it to end.
How are those books? People recommend them on the first law series subreddit but they also say they are very dense and are mainly build up for a quick burst of albeit great but brief action.
I'm only really just starting to dip my toe in fantasy if I'm honest, thrones started me on my journey, I think first law is down right incredible, but those are the only series to really grab me.
I'm giving mistborn another shot when my hold is up, and have been trying John gwynne books, malice and his new series, with middling success.
I seem to very much enjoy the grimdark style - any recommendations? Pretty green when it comes to fantasy.

There's some really great stuff, but I am feeling like there's a lot of junk to wade through. There are many aspects of the lore for example that I have zero interest in. But there are some really great characters. But its no ASOIAF. There you felt Martin could actually convey everything to you while also staying true to his style. Erikson's writing seems very nebulous at times.
I haven't read mistborn, but I did read Way of Kings and loved it.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown Ran through that series twice back to back it's absolutely incredible and the audiobooks are prob the second best audiobook rendition I've ever heard. Final book allegedly being edited now for a late 22 release. First one is the only one that starts with some ya-ish storylines but get through it the world explodes after the institute. Valor - John gwynne.

Really, interesting. Because I am honestly not enjoying this first one much. It is very much a hunger games clone to me.

I thought that was well my first run through, if you can make it through this one it's by far the worst book of the whole series. The rest of the books are absolutely mind blowingly good. Highly recommend you stick it out and request the sequels now.

I finished the first book, but I may pick up the second based on yours and others' recommendations.
But I hardly ever binge a series straight on, I usually intersperse my reading. I tend to burn out on a series if i read all their books back to back/

Gave up on Eye of the World. No promises I'm returning to the land of reading, but I'll either try Red Rising next or take off where I left The Expanse with Book 6.
