The Apartment (1960)

In the Apartment, Jack Lemmon plays an insurance agent (or accountant - I forget), who in an attempt to move up in the company, allows his bosses to use his apartment to have affairs. One day he arrives home and finds a woman, played by Shirley MacLaine, laying unconscious on his bed. She attempted suicide after realizing that the married man she was having an affair with was only using her for sex. After saving her life, the two of them bond and fall in love.

Hey, kids, let me tell you the story of how I met your mother.

If the movie were made today, it would be a silly comedy starring Paul Rudd. The fact it's a prestige Academy Award winner for Best Picture is a tad eye rolling.

Dude, The Apartment is one of the best movies ever. It might actually be Wilder's best film. I think you're the first person to not be entirely swept up in that film's charm and wit. Shame on you.

I rewatched The Apartment today and it further solidified how crazy Neverending is.
