The most vocal anti-vax work colleague in my group chat caught covid around the same time as my scare. I found out last Friday he'd been in the hospital all last week, but was discharged and being forced back to work with rest of us this week.
Found out yesterday he went back in on Friday.
He was my boss and I considered him a friend at one point, but dude went off deep end during Trump. Hope he comes out of this a changed person, but I doubt it.

Will probably come back angry that his doctor didn't give him the horse dewormer in the hospital.

1 million deaths either today or tomorrow for USA.
At this point a growing majority completely preventable.

Gf tested positive on Sunday, quarantined at my place, and I've tested positive on a rapid this am.
Just a slightly scratchy throat, some nose stuffiness. Waiting on a PCR but I don't really feel all too bad.
Being forced to stay home all day is more annoying than anything else, and it's only "day 0".

Good luck dude. I felt around the same and got over it within a few days, it shouldn't be a big thing for a strapping young buck such as yourself.

Went to get my mail today. I live in a small condo complex so the boxes are all located at the front. I was walking down the little path and an old man was walking toward me. He gets closer and I say 'Good morning.' He looks at me and shouts 'STAY SIX FEET AWAY.' We aren't out of the woods yet guys.

Yay, just another crazy illness. At least this one has some real potential for awesome variant names. I suggest they go down the Transformers name rabbit hole. Lol

So what's everyone's work situation these days? Anyone doing permanent remote work? I went back into the office full-time at the end of June, 5 days a week for 12 hours minimum and the wife is...not happy. Not only because I'm out of the house for so long but because she knows as well as I do that I don't need to be in the office at all and even if I did need to show up I don't need to be there for that amount of time. There are definitely similar gigs out there that are fully remote but you don't get the exposure and face time rubbing elbows with people. Career-wise it's better for me to do in-person right now but man, going back to the routine of seeing the kids for 30 minutes or so a day after being at home for 2 1/2 years is something I just don't think I'll settle into again. It's a bell that can't be unrung. On the one hand you can sit in traffic, fork out some bucks in gas, go into an office for 60+ hours a week and barely see your family, but on the other hand you don't have to sit in traffic, don't have to spend as much money on gas, see your family and have the exact same quality of work output as you would if you did option #1. I know my higher ups would disagree but like I said it's a genie that can't get put back into the bottle and those higher ups are the ones who will be retiring in the next few years, it's the next crop of people coming up who will say 'Work from home? Don't mind if I do. Don't mind if we do.' Also, the only thing keeping us in California is my work and when I rip that band-aid off and dedicate myself to only taking remote work then we'll probably head to one of any number of places on her list where we can buy an affordable home with an actual yard. If I need to head out for a few months on a shoot I can work around that but having an 8am-9pm in-office routine indefinitely, yeah that's not going to fly after this project is done.
Overall I imagine that at the minimum giving people a hybrid option is going to be a routine benefit down the road for a lot of industries, especially when younger people are faced with the alternative of having to take a job in a big city with an absurdly high and ever increasing cost of living. Naturally there are some professions where you can't effectively work remotely, retail, food service, teaching etc. But for many of us there's no benefit to going back into work full-time and frankly I don't entirely understand why people would want them to.
Of course I could be wrong on everything. The odds of me moving somewhere in the next few years are pretty good regardless and maybe I won't be able to find remote work on a consistent basis forcing me to do something else entirely which would be scary. Maybe enough people will be fine with going back to the office so that fully remote or hybrid work goes away. But I don't think I'm wrong and I think the wind is already blowing in a certain direction. I'm going to power through the next 12 months or so on my current gig doing the long hours but like I said, after doing the WFH gig for 2 1/2 years there's no convincing me that 'yeah, going back working at a desk and seeing your wife and kids on weekends is the way to go' and that won't be something I'm looking for or will probably even consider.

Mandalorian season 3 almost ended Doomsday ’s marriage. Mandalorian 3 is actually fully remote, those bastards. I was offered but turned them down for personal reasons. My wife supports my decision but it grinds her gears that I could be working in my kitchen every day had I just stayed in that lane.

I'm still fully remote for the time being, but it feels like a matter of time before some asshole in management gets it in his head to blame remote work for some sort of eventual bad statistic that comes their way instead of their own dumb choices and the gravy train ends. Not sure I can bring myself to go back to the way it was before either.

3 days in office a week, 1-1.5 hr commute each way and $325 monthly in parking prior to taxes. I work 1-2 Saturdays a month from home, 2-3 hrs each that I keep a ledger of for days off compensation.
I do work better in the office under the optimal circumstances, but I think it's hard for me to maintain focus wherever I am. Only saving grace is I'm not tied as much to a daily delivery and can go in or leave early/late so long as I take most of the global calls somewhere.

Someone at AAA's kid showed them what Rock Rolling was a couple weeks ago and thought now would be the perfect time to plug it into a commercial.

DoomsdayI have been officially back to the office for about 2 months now after my 1 workplace pulled remote access to EMR. So since March 2020, I went about 2 months completely at home and then 2 days a week in to make calls which was stupid. BTW, I work a full work week and am in counseling. There are honestly positives and negatives as you spelled out, Doom. Unfortunately, my work does incline to needing to be done in person, though Virtual has now become and will stay present as well. Liked being home with the kids and fam but I also discovered needing to juggle dad and work at the same time and started to really dislike that. My wife said to me how she got frustrated by my going in to work as she was left with the kids and was liking my being around. Balance is key but my work is very emotionally draining and rewarding and am kinda happy with the home and work roles now being completely separate.
