JPM just announced we're back to masks if not in our seats (6ft distanced) or eating/drinking.
The unvaxxed or undisclosed will have to take at least 2 rapid tests a week.
I'm curious if we start seeing the unvaxxed holdouts quit or take the vaccine.
Really doesn't change much for me, but we're still every other desk cordoned off and actually won't business over COVID so not everyone's been back in since they asked for 50% capacity early July

School starts in a couple of weeks, and we've been wondering what protocols the school was going to implement with the resurgence of Covid (as if it really went away...). As it turns out, all they can do is encourage staff and students to wear masks and social distance and suggest that they get vaccinated. Turns out, our Governor (who himself had covid, mind you) signed a law prohibiting schools from instituting mask mandates or requiring vaccines. What the fuck?

The delta variant situation sucks. At least during the lockdown, I could be pretty confident that I was never going to get the virus as long as I did all the stuff I was supposed to do. Now I'm constantly in this weird position where I'll take some moderate risk like walking into a grocery store masked and then spend the next three days over-reacting to every cough or sneeze thinking "OMG, did I catch it!" I want to be taking some of the advantages of being vaccinated but every time I try I end up paying for it in guilt and paranoia.

I know we are all sick and ready for Covid to end but I feel like certain places are now moving into that scary territory of, "if we pretend it's all OK it will be ok." Out of sight, can't be real, type of mentality and it's freaking me out. Like reopening more places and less masking and quarantine restrictions and reopening the border to the US and I just see it as this huge recipe for disaster. Vaccines have made a big difference, and they have instilled more confidence but I wonder how there can be like 94 cases out of about 500 new ones in Ontario yesterday that are from people who were supposedly double vaxxed. Ummm, 20% got breakthrough infected? I could accept those numbers being more like 1 in 10 or something. I cant really get my head around this number other than those vaccinated becoming too confident and over exposing themselves? Looks like there is need for a booster shot, I wonder if there is data on those who got it and the time between their first and second doses.

Look up the Pfizer vs moderna numbers after 150 days. It's pretty clear what's going down. The efficacy of the vaccine is fading for symptomatic infection, but it remains primed to protect you from serious illness and death. With more different immune systems getting vaccinated it's just going to happen that there will be breakthroughs. And delta is like nothing we've seen before in this brawl and it does evade the vaccine in more people than we expected. After 150 days you'll see a breakthrough in over 50% of Pfizer folks, and some like 25% of moderna folks, if the mayo clinic data is to be believed.
The right loves to bring up that one little super spreader event in mass. They love harping that all the vaccinated people still spread it and got sick. Where they stop is that 4 of the 250 or whatever were ever admitted to the hospital. And all survived. Whole lot different numbers with the unvaccinated.
Pfizer has applied for the booster shot for the entire population, we could get the emergency approval by the end of September, would expect moderna to follow suit this week.

I know people like to harp on Nate Silver, but he's right that the Massachusetts study was skewed and self selected by those who reported symptoms. It wasn't a random sample.

Have 3 people under quarantine from my department alone. All were in contact with family members who are sick or had the virus, so thankfully they weren't catching it in the office or anything but still annoying.
No email from hr or anything, only know since I'm covering for 2 of their inboxes and they basically had to tell me.

www.reddit.com/r/HermanCainAward/This subreddit is extra dark but also informative to see how the unclean masses live. And what's with everyone asking for prayers then thanking people for them and saying no worries this guy's with Jesus now so all good. No lessons are ever learned, just more heel digging. Insane that the UK has got 85% one shot and 76% fully vaxxed. I thought we were like brothers with the amount of crazies we have but no... America truly is in a class by itself for the conspiracy nuts. Which is weird since Facebook is world wide. What's with Americans being gullible for pretty much any conspiracy theory?

The Murdoch owned press in the UK is pro-vax, likely because Boris Johnson is in power now and they want to make him look good.

So Ontario will now have a covid vaccine certificate/passport in effect on Sept 22. So basically anywhere that is high risk, public space with many people, excepting health and food.
I'm on the fence with it, I see the benefits and why it's created. Then I also see how much of living will be taken away from those who aren't vaccinated. To me there is some medical coercion there but then I flip flop to thinking about how we are in a pandemic and this needed...
Where it hits home the hardest is future plans with my one brother. I'm vaccinated and he's not and he's been isolating with my parents for basically the while pandemic. Very scant and risk free trips to town. Anyway, he is also a big lover of film and we have ot been seeing much of any of each other. He has been talking about looking forward to us getting to see a movie again, in theaters, sometime this Fall and it's just not going to happen now which makes me sad.

Really hope this vaccine mandate survives the courts.
The precedent is there it should, but the Supreme Court has me worried.
If it sticks, it's a good first step.
Vax approval for younger children is the next one.

Vax approval for younger children is the next one. Sounds like the main line of attack will be to suggest that Congress' delegation of power to the executive via OSHA was invalid from the beginning, which is a line of thinking that the court has been toying with. That's the main method through which the mandate can operate via executive order.

Found out yesterday my family and I dodged what could be the biggest bullet in my entire life. There was a large family retreat planned and we were thinking of attending it to be social and connect with like minded people, etc. My wife and I decided we wouldn't register as after giving this some thought, we worried about some of the opinions firmly held by others, their decisions to not worry about Covid risk, could place us in a proverbial perfect storm of risk and we decided it wasn't for us.
Turns out there was a huge spread of Covid there, 3 couples we know personally and their kids getting sick with it. One of them the dad was super sick and it was touch and go. And... they still are anti vaccination. I just don't understand how so many people can do their own research and conclude it's unsafe for them and they have had a life and death experience with covid.

Good call, glad you made the right choice. My dad has some old friends who are anti-vax, they live in Arizona or New Mexico or something. One of them was in the hospital for a few weeks with Covid, last I heard they were still there but that news is a couple weeks old. You know though that he's going to leave the hospital and say 'now I don't need the vaccine, I'm immune so there.'

Signing up for a booster was incredibly easy. If you have any thought that you want it, you can sign up in a second if they have available doses.

FDA hasn't recommended boosters for Moderna yet, but it looms like they may approve half doses soon.
