I'm pretty selective with the movies in my collection. But every once in a while I will ask "should this movie really be included?" So the n it goes on the chopping block, where I try to figure out if i still want it or not.
So maybe you guys can help me decide. I'll state one of my movies and if you are interested you can argue for or against me keeping the movie.
First up: A.I.

Chop. Not a movie I would bother watching again which is really one of the only criteria I have when it comes to physically buying a movie; will I watch this more than once down the road?
There are a number of DVDs I could get rid of but who would buy them for more than a couple of bucks?

Chop.
...80-90% of my DVDs I'll never watch again.

This is the perfect thread for Neverending and myself. Chop that movie.

I can't say I relate too much with this instinct, I tend to be pretty selective about which movies I buy but once I have them I usually keep them. There have certainly been some movies I bought way way back that I "chopped" at a certain point like Independence Day and Rush Hour but those are a real minority in my collection. Given that you've already spent the money, chopping just seems wasteful.
But if you're doing this I'd say keep A.I. It can fit into a larger Spielberg subsection of the collection and it's one of those movies you'll always find yourself revisiting to re-decide whether it's a mess or a misunderstood masterpiece.

Keep. The movie certainly has problems, but it's highly creative visually and that's best enjoyed on blu-ray rather than on television. It's also an interesting part of Spielberg's career and features a great performance from Jude Law.

Will you honestly ever rewatch A.I. though? On the other hand I don't see the point in tossing it or selling it either. Tossing it is a waste and selling it will get you, what, $.50?

Its more about whether or not its worthy to be there, rather than the practicality of what to do with it after.

Chop it
Movie seems deep when you're in high school, not so much later in life. Might be worth holding on to just to watch that Edward Norton performance though.

Save it.
Besides the Norton performance, the "hey, I know that actor from....! " factor is also a contributing factor.

Does it have decent special features? I feel like director commentary on American History X would be interesting.

Chop that shit. Such an over rated bland movie.
And just donate them to libraries if you are worried about making money, let someone else watch it and fuel the philanthropic part of your psyche.

Arguably one of Edward Norton's best performances.

Makes me curious. I also enjoyed it back in my teenager days but it doesn't seem like a movie that would hold up terribly well.

I never get rid of any movie, once acquired. That said, I've never bothered to buy American History X, even when I could get it for only $2. It's a very good movie, but I didn't enjoy watching it. It's too grim for repeat viewings.

I never get rid of any movie, once acquired. Why? Some people have a drug problem. Some have a drinking problem. I have a movie problem.
