I mean David Yates sucks but I always watch em when they are on cable.
Still enjoyable and will be the standard until someone convinces jk to option them for a longer tv treatment.
I'd prob keep em.

Next up: The 8 Harry Potter films. What's wrong with you? I've been slowly rewatching the series, and reflecting on the whole thing, these are my thoughts.
Philosopher's Stone is really good, but it is a family film. So I'd keep it for that purpose, but otherwise I dont know how much more it holds for me.
Chamber of Secrets is slow and kind of lame.
Azkaban is the one I haven't watched yet in this current rewatch, but I know its probably the best of them.
Goblet of Fire is poorly directed and, well, kinda sucks.
Order of the Phoenix is one which set a a new visual tone for the films I'm not a huge fan of. I did appreciate the movie more this last time around though, but its still nothing great.
Half-Blood Prince went down for me on this rewatch. This movie is a mess.
The two deathly hallows are really good, but the sheen has certainly worn off of them.

Clearly, I'm the wrong person to get into this debate with, but there's enough value in every one of the movies to warrant keeping them, I'd say.
Sidenote: I caught some of Goblet of Fire on TV this past weekend, and that might be the one with the biggest pure entertainment value in the whole series. Strong set pieces, excellent pace, firm grip on tone -- both the comedy and drama still lands -- and a really good score.
Half-Blood Prince also has gorgeous cinematography.

I'm going to pretend I'm not reading all of this hate for Goblet of Fire and Half-Blood Prince, which are the two strongest character pieces of the series.

If it weren't for the fact that I absolutely can't stand Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny as couples, and given that the film's basically structured as a romantic comedy for those two pairs, Half-Blood Prince would rank higher up in the franchise for me cause everything else about that movie is aces.

The thing about Half-Blood Prince for me is that book is almost nothing but exposition, and I had no expectations for it as a movie because I knew adapting it as a movie would have been a complete and utter pain in the ass. The fact that it wound up as good as it was always impressed me a great deal, because it always felt like it should have been much worse.
If I have any issue with it then it would be that the Half-Blood Prince storyline should have been cut because it has nothing to do with anything and leads nowhere. But they couldn't do that because it's the title of the damn movie.

I always found it kind of hilarious that the reveal of who the Half-Blood Prince is relegated to just a throwaway line near the end of the movie. Almost like the movie itself said, "Oh, right, cause this is what we're named for."

I belong to a FB group for the Binge Mode podcast.
The switch between Game of Thrones to Harry Potter ruined the group. Even with the switch now to Star Wars the potter nerds never shut up.
Ax them all.

I don't like this version of 1godzillafan that's a Harry Potter fanatic. Trust me, I'm not even the biggest Potter nerd I know. I've dated a girl who used to dress up with her mom to film premieres. And I have another friend who watches all of the movies once a month. Me? I like the books and mostly enjoy the movies (Crimes of Grindlewald notwithstanding). That's about the extent of it.
