I hope the positive reception of Logan, both critically and financially, causes Fox to reconsider doing a follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse. We have in Logan an excellent ending to the X-Men movie franchise as we've known it so far. Moving forward, Fox needs to focus on Deadpool and X-Force, and leave the traditional members of the X-Men alone for a few years.

You're suggesting they might consider to stop making movies with the younger cast? It's certainly worth consideration. The current plan for the sequel requires the participation of McAvoy, Lawrence and Fassbender, yet none of them are contractually obligated anymore to reprise their roles. X-Men: Apocalypse under-performed at the box office and wasn't received well by fans or critics. The younger cast was the least interesting part of the film, with the exception of Quicksilver. Scott and Jean were as blandly generic as ever. Deadpool and X-Force are enough to keep the film division of Fox occupied. They've spent the past seventeen years on Wolverine, Jean, Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, Iceman, Kitty, Xavier, Magneto and Mystique. It's time to give them a rest for a while, then do a reboot with an all-new take on the team that nobody would have imagined possible back in 2000 when the first film was released. |

After watching the HBO documentary Bright Lights about Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, I noticed something about Singin' in the Rain I'd never caught before. Quicksilver's costume designer is clearly a fan of the movie.   |

I hope I'm wrong about this. Attempting the Dark Phoenix with essentially zero setup doesn't seem like a good idea. The Dark Phoenix saga was a slow build over the course of several years. That buildup is why the story worked so well. There is no buildup in what loosely passes for an X-Men Cinematic Universe. The Jean Gray of the current films is someone nobody knows or cares anything about. The characters the general audience are interested that are appearing are Xavier, Mystique, Magneto. How is Fox supposed to build a Dark Phoenix film around these characters?

Sophie Turner is a terrible actress... Who is directing this? It won't matter... No one will save this. They need to go under the marvel fold, just let them drive the bus like Spiderman and just rake in money and they practically don't have to do anything.
It's a passive income stream if you let it into Marvel's universe.

X-Men: The Last Stand was an adaptation of Joss Weddon's Cure storyline, with Dark Phoenix tacked on as a B-plot. Plus, it sucked. It was just better than Superman Returns. |
