On No Film School I was watching Criterion's painstaking process to get the Apu Trilogy restored. I've only seen Pather Panchali (which is amazing!) and can't wait for the others, but they discussed trying to do this for other "lost" films. Well, I've been dying to see Eric von Stroheim's Greed from 1924 by Criterion. I don't really need the 4 hour long version, but man that would be great if Criterion could make this happen. I know it's been somewhat restored by Warner Bros. or something, but that movie is supposed to be damn good and I wanna watch it. In the realm of insanely ambitious nine hour silent epics from the early 20s that were eventually cut down to more reasonable levels, I prefer La Roue by a lot.

The semi-annual Barnes and Noble 50% sale is coming up in a few weeks. I got a list saved for some pickups.
The Manchurian Candidate Brief Encounter Dr. Strangelove A Touch of Zen - I haven't seen this but I allow myself a blind-buy every once in a while if I think it's a movie I'll enjoy and it has a solid reputation.
McCabe & Mrs. Miller doesn't come out until August so that might have to wait until the November sale.
Any flicks you guys fancy?

September titles announced:
Night Train to Munich - September 6 The Story of the Last Chrysanthemum - September 13 Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman - September 13 - looks like they ditched the dual format and are releasing the film series strictly onto blu-ray. Cat People - September 20 Blood Simple - September 20 Dekalog - September 27 Valley of the Dolls - September 27 Beyond the Valley of the Dolls - September 27

Not so sure if I want to double dip on Blood Simple, the current blu-ray is not that bad and it looks like they aren't really adding much in the way of extras.

Its been a while since i've watched Pan's, how is the transfer of the existing bluray?
Also, I am reading a review for New World, sounds like all 3 cuts of the film are included. Oddly enough, the transfers on them differ in quality.

It apparently has a lot of bad digital noise reduction that wasn't on the European BR. Put off buying it for years.

Are you on FB and do you have Venmo/Paypal? Not sure how expensive shipping would be from California to Canada but I can pick up a couple for you if you want.
