Hurm, I already have the MGM Blu-Ray, but The Manchurian Cadidate is a favourite of mine and it deserves to be owned in premium condition. I'll wait it out and see how the criterion version is received.

About fucking time on Bicylce Thieves. Manchurian Candidate is also cool to see in there (even if the cover art kind of sucks). Wonder if they moved that Paris Belongs to Us movie up, you know, because of the thing...

Their facebook announcement says that they're finally releasing titles that people have been clamoring for. I was kinda hoping to see the Before Trilogy but I have a feeling we won't be waiting too much longer for that.

The playing card in the car is definitely The Manchurian Candidate, and the Easy Rider bike is being stolen, so it is both Easy Rider and The Bicycle Thieves. Both The Manchurian Candidate and The Bicycle Thieves have been announced already, but those hints seem really obviously to be for those films.

Really hoping Dr. Strangelove shows up. No hints for the Before trilogy though, for shame.

I already have Strangelove, so I'll have to see if this one is a significant upgrade. New World as well.
Yeah, I'd like the before movies. Oh well.

The Three Kings in the back would seem to be the David O. Russell movie Three Kings... but that already has a pretty decent blu-ray.
The guy pushing the stroller looks a lot like McCabe from McCabe & Mrs. Miller
The wolf in the stroller is believed to represent Lone Wolf and Cub
The Angel on the Dr. Strangelove clue might mean Fallen Angel, or Only Angels Have Wings, or The Exterminating Angel
The whole JFK thing is probably representing the documentary Primary
The New World is pretty obvious
The Phoenix represents the recent German film Phoenix
The grandfather clock is almost certainly Chimes at Midnight
A lot of people think the flowers next to the clock represent The Story of Late Chrysanthemums, which Janus is touring
The boxer with the saxophone represent Here Comes Mr. Jordan
The Squid and the Whale is obvious
The naked guy on the island is probably Kaneto Shindo’s The Naked Island

Wow Chimes at Midnight might finally be getting a release? I had to watch it online because Netflix doesn't even list in Welles' filmography, so a Criterion restoration of it would be awesome.

Yeah, that battle sequence is highly impressive, I never thought Welles would stage something like that so incredibly basically because he doesn't have anything like that in any of his other films. Plus it's hilarious to watch his bowling ball ass in armor being a drunk instigator all film, he's so good in the role.

On No Film School I was watching Criterion's painstaking process to get the Apu Trilogy restored. I've only seen Pather Panchali (which is amazing!) and can't wait for the others, but they discussed trying to do this for other "lost" films. Well, I've been dying to see Eric von Stroheim's Greed from 1924 by Criterion. I don't really need the 4 hour long version, but man that would be great if Criterion could make this happen. I know it's been somewhat restored by Warner Bros. or something, but that movie is supposed to be damn good and I wanna watch it.

The complete, unedited 4 hour version is lost. There's probably a copy sitting in some basement somewhere but that probably won't ever be found. There was a restoration using stills of some of the edited footage I believe. But yes, if someone ever got their hands on the full version of the film that would be tremendous.

Wow Chimes at Midnight might finally be getting a release? I had to watch it online because Netflix doesn't even list in Welles' filmography, so a Criterion restoration of it would be awesome. They've done a big restoration which is currently touring theaters for the next couple of months. The restoration of Greed "restores" the missing footage using stills and title cards... it's kind of a slog to sit through. I kind of want to try seeing the regular version some day because the parts that actually moved seemed pretty cool.

That's kind of annoying. It's the only movie to make it on Sight and Sound's Top 10 list that I haven't seen and it bugs me that there's not really a definitive version available.

Just watched the original Lady Snowblood. Pretty cool movie, lots of obvious pulls that went into Kill Bill.

Brief Encounter is a pleasant surprise. I have the Criterion DVD that I never opened, I'll see how much I can get if I sell it on Amazon, probably enough to upgrade.

Not to long ago I was trying to track down a copy of The Player and was disappointed that the old Blu-Ray was out of print... pissed me off at the time but it looks like I dodged a bullet.
