I was just in Barnes and Noble and happened to get Thief on Criterion. Yes, Doomsday , I've already seen it and quite liked it. So as long as we're talking about it, that scene in the diner where James Caan's character is talking about his time in prison has always stuck with me ever since I first saw the movie. Apparently that's the scene James Caan is most proud of in his career. With good reason.

Out of curiosity, what do the Irishman or Marraiage Story releases offer over what you'd see on Netflix?

Irishman is actually a movie that I'm interested in seeing the special features. I wouldn't mind seeing Parasite's either.

I don't know if you guys follow Criterion Collection on Facebook but every time there are announcements a lot of the comments are people creaming their pants regardless of what the movie is or if I've even heard of it.
'Céline and Julie Go Boating HOLY SHIT!! First day buy!! It's about time Criterion! You've made my whole year ahhhh!!'

This might be something I'm just as finnicky about as Ian.

They spice up the collection. Add a bit of variation. I like that.

Ian would have so many simultaneously furious emotions about the Godzilla Showa Era packaging. Ian is being silly about Night of the Living Dead. It fits on the shelf just fine and bickering about it being half a centimeter wider is silliness. Those big Criterion boxed sets that aren't even shaped like blu-rays on the other hand are fucking insults to humanity.

I like my monster movie blu-ray sets to be kaiju sized and forty times larger than anything else on my shelf.

I'm pretty sure some of the casing has changed. I have a cardboard Tokyo Story but I'm pretty sure that's now available in the standard packaging. On the other hand I have a standard-packaged Night of the Hunter and I think that's also available in some thin crummy cardboard contraption.

Those are titles that were released during the year or so when they were packing Blu-ray and DVD's together in the same release instead of separating them out. They could still do plastic cases for titles where all the bonus features fit on one DVD but if they needed a bonus features DVD they had to do the cardboard case to house all three discs. For future pressings they separated them back out again.
