I think the next time there's a sale, I'll be paying attention, cause for whatever reason, 12 Angry Men (which I love) came to mind recently and I was looking on Amazon for it, but it's only available through third party sellers and the lowest price is about $39. I've also been amassing a "Criterion wishlist."
Now, this may very well have been an ill-advised impulse/blind buy, but I just ordered the Criterion of Naked Lunch from Amazon. I've been reading about the movie the last few weeks and I've become so interested to see it. I happen to also have it coming as a rental from Netflix in the mail today and the Criterion is scheduled for Tuesday, so there's a grace period just in case I don't like it. But I just saw the "Only 3 left in stock" note on the Amazon page and that bent my will. I'm well aware it's supposed to be a very strange movie to say the least, but I think I've read up enough on it to sit down to watch it with the right frame of mind, so here's hoping.

Unless COVID has blown everything up the Barnes and Noble sale should start in the next few days. One of us will post about it in this thread when it lands.

FYI, Criterion discs are always available from Criterion's official site at a 20% discount, so you can get most regularly priced discs from them for $31.96 at any time. They have free shipping on orders over $50. Still cheaper to wait for a flash sale or B&N sale when things are 50% off, but that's usually a good place to go if you need one in a pinch.

Well, Naked Lunch and Blow Out I got from Amazon both for $27.99, $30.96 after taxes and shipping, so those two at least were cheaper than if I'd gone through Criterion's site. But still, good to know.

I'm amazed too considering how you can find literally anything they sell online at a fraction of the price. I only buy things from there during the Criterion sale.

The deaths of these retail giants tend to be sloooooow burns rather than massive implosions, especially if they manage to avoid being taken over by Venture Capital companies like Toys R Us was.

Doomsday, how much percent off does the B&N sale usually offer? Cause I'm seeing a lot of the titles I'm after for $27.99 on Amazon, but is B&N's sale price cheaper than that?

Cool. Then I'll wait. Gonna be on the lookout for 12 Angry Men, The Game, Traffic, maybe Blood Simple.

I think we should all take a vote as to which Criterion PhantomKnight should blind buy. I'll make a poll with some options. Someone let me know if I missed any. Phantom, we're going to hold you to this.

I can't imagine they have high book sales - and wasn't the Nook a colossal failure? The deaths of these retail giants tend to be sloooooow burns rather than massive implosions Not in times like these. Circuit City was dead by the end of 2008. Borders limped for another year or two but the writing was on the wall. Someone's gonna bite the dust in 2020. Payless Shoes. K-Mart. I think Sears. They went out right before the Corona hit. So who's next? JCPenny? Barnes & Nobles seem like the next big casualty, unless AMC Theatres (or Regal Cinemas) beats them to it.

I don't know that I would have recommended that one as a blind buy.

I mean...I at least think I know what the approach for it is going to be, so I'm prepared to divorce any sort of logic from the story. I just know I'm fascinated to see it for myself.
