I also have some reasons as to why I want to check out any of Cimino's stuff that I've missed but I'll share that at a later time. You’re remaking Thunderbolt & Lightfoot? Deer Hunter remake. Set in Afghanistan. All female.

Deer Hunter remake. Set in Afghanistan. All female. I'd watch that. Remember that chick who sexually harassed the Taliban POW’s? Doomsday might be on to something.

I haven't seen Heaven's Gate yet but it's definitely on my list to watch at some point.

You’re remaking Thunderbolt & Lightfoot? Deer Hunter remake. Set in Afghanistan. All female. That'd give the Russian roulette scene a whole new vibe. A sexy vibe.

Didn't know the new Criterion disc of The Cameraman also had Spite Marriage in it. There is no way I'm not buying this.

I don't know why, but every time I hear the title Elephant Man, I flash back to the old boards when some dude posted a thread titled "Have do you seen the elephant man?"

I'm about halfway through the 210 minute cut of Heaven's Gate. Man talk about a movie where there's a lot going on but nothing happening. It's not a bad movie, I'm just waiting for that through line to finally kick in. Coming up on 2 hours and we're still waiting for that hook.

Aaaand I finished Heaven's Gate. All 3 hours 39 minutes of it. There are a lot of good looking sets and enjoyable scenes, the ending battle is great and might have made for a great climax in a better movie but unfortunately the film itself doesn't add up to a whole lot. For a movie that rivals Lawrence of Arabia in runtime there just isn't much to take away from it. The characters aren't terribly interesting and the movie doesn't build toward it's ending, it just saunters there slowly. There are a lot of storylines and none of them are ever delved into too deeply, they come and go and it prevents you from relating to anyone on screen. It's not a bad movie, it's got some great scenes but there's just a lot there that makes it feel bloated and bogged down. I have no idea what the differences are in the directors but but considering how this is the 'Cimino approved' version I'll just stick with this for the time being. It's certainly not a terrible movie and Cimino probably didn't deserve to have his career torpedoed over it but it's far from the masterpiece that people are calling it nowadays, that's going a little overboard.

That is not the movie I thought it was. Why did I think it was a documentary about abortion?
