Well, that just confirms this will suck. Kevin Smith is the biggest hack in the business right now.

There’s very little chemistry between any combination of the four Ghostbusters This has been my argument since day one - since before casting was even announced. One of the reasons why Ghostbusters worked is because the cast had history together. Ernie Hudson was the odd man out, but that was written into the script. He was the new guy. But Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis had been acting together for over a decade. There was a natural chemistry you couldn't duplicate with three random actors. To give the female Ghostbusters some credit, the casting wasn't too far off. Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig have already been in a movie together - and Kate McKinnon, I think, was on SNL with Wiig. But it still lacked that decade-old relationship. I still believe it was a giant mistake that Sony (and Paul Feig) didn't strongly pursue Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. I'm sure that would have forced Feig to make an entirely different movie, but so what? It would have been a better one.

Damn. Roeper didn't hold back. People forget that Roeper isn't an actual film critic. That's why so many people were against him as Siskel's replacement. He's a columnist and so, yeah, his job isn't too hold back. Ebert, as a critic, knew that his job was ultimately a consumer report and tried to be a bit diplomatic. Just be HE didn't like something, doesn't mean others wouldn't either.

That review was awesome, thank you Roeper! Again, none of this has anything to do with the cast being all female. The effects look like shit, the jokes weren't funny 20 years ago (how many times do we need to see someone jump into a pit only to not be caught? Was this ever funny?), and I knew it that they'd sneak lazy homages to the original in there throughout it. I really hope this bombs.

79%? Not too bad of a start. Most critics have already posted their review, so I don't see it going lower than 75% or higher than 80%.

Kevin Smith has always been a generally positive reviewer, and these days he sees every movie through the filter of the best weed money can buy. Even with all of that in it's favor, Kevin wasn't exactly gushing about the Ghostbusters reboot. He said he thought it was good, and that he laughed a few times. That's it. For Kevin, that qualifies as a scathing review.
Since I don't partake, and am pretty critical when it comes to film, I suspect I'll hate it.

That's a pretty grand infographic for such an uninteresting result.
How does that compare to The Notebook?

This remake is disgusting!! They take a classic story and bog it down by casting a bunch of "modern" comedians like Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd. Give me the original any day!!

Your new Ghostbusters: Melissa McCarthy Kristen Wiig Leslie Jones Kate McKinnon It is a bad day for movie fans. Your new Ghostbusters: Melissa McCarthy Kristen Wiig Leslie Jones Kate McKinnon Holy shit, this is terrible news. How could they possibly think this wouldn't be met with utmost scorn and anger from everyone? Won't see it, not ever. I bet Melissa McCarthy is going to butt heads with a lot of people and say some way inappropriate stuff with Kristen Wiig looking on making some weird, awkward silly face. And it will be HILARIOUS! I bet Melissa McCarthy is going to butt heads with a lot of people and say some way inappropriate stuff with Kristen Wiig looking on making some weird, awkward silly face. And it will be HILARIOUS! You forgot that McCarthy will probably fart a lot and eat someone's food and her rude nature will be off-putting. BUT! Over the course of the film, her flatulence and potty mouth will win them over as she proves herself in ghost busting, and the 4 put aside their character archetypes to save the day! Worst. Reboot. Ever. You heard it here first. Ugh, it comes out on my birthday. Way to alienate the people who probably care about the original the most. *looks at the cast listing*
Is Melissa McCarthy playing Slimer? The new Ghostbusters at the SNL40 after-party. I just want this to be made, released, and out of theaters so I can stop hearing about the next Ghostbusters movie. Neil Casey from Other Space was just cast as the villain in Lady Ghostbusters (unofficial official title). Casey does improv in New York and LA pretty frequently. I've seen him perform several times with Zach Woods. Here's both of them doing a pretty good set. The trades keep pushing this film like it's their job. They keep calling it 'highly anticipated' and that it's going to be 'one of the biggest movies of the year.' Like you guys I read blogs, comments and talk around the town. I haven't heard of anyone, not one person who wants to see or is even excited for this movie. The only people who are excited for it are the 'it has womyn' types. I guess this makes me a raging sexist but whatever, I think this movie could bomb. I have nothing against female Ghostbusters. I was actually excited when it was rumored that Emma Stone would play the lead and her love interest would be played by Ryan Gosling. But this movie looks like a shitty remake of the original. That trailer was just as funny as I always knew it was going to be. I'm so glad it's gonna be awful so none of us have to eat our words. Cynicism wins! The trailer on YouTube had 139K likes. Dislikes? 263K. I'm fascinated by this movie to tell you the truth. I can't remember the last time a movie was so polarizing. Not only that but it seems like a vast majority of the general public (or at least people who use the internet) are against this movie or find it to be unnecessary/unfunny while at the same time entertainment websites are pushing it with all their might. I've seen several websites touting it as 'the MUST SEE movie of the summer,' 'the funniest trailer you've ever seen!' etc. etc. The trailer is dogshit, everybody knows it's dogshit, and I think most people are done with reading 'oh you must be sexist' if they don't like it. On top of that we have a new all-female Ocean's 11 movie that we're 'supposed' to look forward to. Frankly whether people realize it or not, I think everyone is tired of being insulted. Just because they take a property, swap women for men and give us a mediocre trailer shouldn't make us want to see it and it certainly doesn't make people sexist. As of 5:09 PM PST May 18th. Ghostbusters trailer #2. 5,535 likes 27,107 dislikes I'm actually curious, where do you guys sit on the whole 'either like it or you're a sexist!' argument? Because there's a lot going both ways, people saying 'it sucks because it cast women' and others saying 'if you don't want to see it you hate women.' Granted it's the internet doing what it does best but I can't remember the last time a movie has received this much backlash so far in advance. Yeah, it's just the internet being hyperbolic and shitty. My twitter feed exploded after James Rolfe posted his video with comments ranging from "he's an asshole for judging it" before seeing it to "he's a mysoginist who just doesn't wanna see it because he hates women". I shit you not. The first argument I can sort of see (at least to a certain extent), though even he admits the movie could be good. However his basic argument is that he isn't interested in a remake of Ghosbusters and that the trailers have been awful. I also think he raises a great point regarding people who say "This remake/reboot/sequel looks like shit" but then see it anyway. I agree. Take a fucking stand and vote with your dollar. Anyway, back to your original question; I have no doubt that certain sexist attitudes are helping fuel the hatred toward this new Ghostbusters, but it's hardly the only reason. The film does indeed look awful and this is also a huge brand which people really love. On top of that, but unlike Robocop or Total Recall or The Thing, people have actually wanted a new Ghostbusters (I haven't but others have) which also is partially why the outrage to this is stronger than for those films. To equate the lack of enthusiasm for the film entirely to sexism is ridiculous. So yeah, people are taking this thing too seriously. Also, who gives a shit? Worst case scenario it's a shitty Ghostbusters remake you'll forget about in six months. Brace yourself for the new Ghostbusters theme song They're punking us, that's the only explanation. Between the movie and now this song there's no way anyone is trying to legitimately make a quality product. It all has to be a big joke. I came here to post the same thing. I dunno, at this point everyone seems to have made up their minds, it's either going to be an insult to the original or it will be great because womyn. I doubt the reviews, positive or negative, will be any less biased. I am all but certain however that it's not the 'movie of the summer' as one reviewer put it. Regardless of how good or bad this is it's probably going to end up making bank. The Ghostbusters name is going to bring in a certain amount of money no matter what, the Melissa McCarthy name is going to bring in a certain audience, and the culture war will probably help the movie as well because the "SJWs" will see it to help the cause the the "bigots" will also see it so they can explain how much they hate it.
