I dusted off my Watchmen: Director's Cut Blu-Ray. I got it for $5 at Best Buy. It's a steelbook, IanTheCool. The total runtime is 3 hours and... 4 minutes? Honestly, it didn't make much of a difference. I know Doomsday is a Watchmen hater. Dracula and SnoBorderZero will recall the infamous Watchmen thread at the old CS! that was filled with so much trolling that Frizzo had to shut it down. I wasn't part of that. I liked the movie - I just didn't love it - and the director's cut actually made things worse. The theatrical version, in spite of its flaws, had a semi tight story. This 3 hour cut is so unfocused that characters disappear from the film for long stretches of time. The "villain" is practically nonexistent and Rorschach, arguably the best character in Watchmen, loses the spotlight to Nite Owl and Silk Spectre. Dr. Manhattan is the only character unaffected. If anything, the Director's Cut helps him. Those extra minutes do add to his emotional arc. So with the Batman vs Superman director's cut around the corner, it's possible that PG Cooper is right. It might not matter. If it's anything like Watchmen, it won't be more story or better story. It might just be more scenes of Batman and Superman doing stuff. I'll still watch it, but it's obvious that Zack Snyder isn't a storyteller. He's just a glorified cinematographer.

Batman vs Superman is officially on sale, but only digitally. You'll have to wait until July 19 for the blu ray. Best Buy WILL have the steelbook. Yes, IanTheCool , I checked. Wal-Mart has an exclusive cover. And the Target one is ... a book.

Hmmmm... 3 hours and 2 minutes.
Just watched it and apart from a very slow build up, I thought it was pretty good. Diana is a badass.

Oh, Wilhelm Scream at about 1:15:52 Also, Jeremy Irons is just about ready to star in a Boris Karloff biopic if they make one.

I finished watching the BvS Ultimate edition last night. All the truly glaring problems are still there, but this is a slightly improved version of the film. It's not big enough of an improvement to make a real difference to the average moviegoer though, so I can understand why WB trimmed out the material. The longer running time would result in fewer theatre showings, and it didn't make the movie good enough to draw more paying customers. From a business standpoint, a movie the lengnth of the theatrical version is the one that needed to go to theatres. It could certainly be argued though, that some of what was cut should have stayed in, and some of what stayed in could have been left on the cutting room floor.
That said of course, the real proper business decision would have been to stop this epic mess before it ever went in front of the cameras, but that's just not how WB does things. With Snyder at the helm and Goyer writing the screenplay, BvS was never going to turn out well. Snyder only understands the visual aspect of film making. Goyer doesn't know how to write a basic narrative without leaving massive plot holes or absurd leaps of logic, and doesn't understand any aspect of these characters.

I liked the ultimate edition.
I still wish Cavill was even a marginal actor, he is awful. Batfleck is awesome though def looking forward to seeing what DC can do, I enjoyed this world they built for a starter.

The uncut version definitely filled in all the "blanks" and confusing parts (I guess this really is Lex Luthor Jr. weird.), but its still a shitty movie.
It took me 6 hours to watch it because I kept losing interest.

I guess that means you wouldn't be interested in a 4-hour cut of 300, right?

I didn't pay for it, and everyone at work was mildly curious if it redeemed the film at all.

Tedious, poorly scripted, and Eisenberg...I'm not even sure what he was doing. Cartoon crazy I guess? Lex stood out in a weird way, and not in a good one. Do Snyder/Goyer/whomever else think that dark/dour equals smart or something? Because the half-baked philosophizing and tired dialogue are not as brilliant as they think.
Rating: D+
Update: Finished it finally. Wonder Woman was awesome and easily the best part of the entire movie, hence the upgraded score. Still not enough though. After mulling it over, there are glimpses of a great movie in there somewhere; they're just really scattered. It really comes down to the sloppy script.

My question for you all: considering how poorly received this was are you still going to invest your time/money in Justice League?

My question for you all: considering how poorly received this was are you still going to invest your time/money in Justice League? Well, this was still the creative team that gave us Man of Steel, so they are capable of making good movies and there were raw ingredients in BvS that kind of didn't come together correctly so obviously if the trailers/reviews turn out to be dope I'm going to give them another chance. That said, things clearly went wrong on this one and everyone seems to be learning all the wrong lessons from it so I'm not too confident about the "corrections" they'll be making. I would guess it has about a 10% chance of being great, a 30% chance of being middling, and a 60% chance of sucking. Either way if I'm being honest I'm probably going to see it regardless because I've lost control of my life and can't say "no" to event superhero movies like this which I feel obligated to have an opinion about and be part of "the conversation." I mean, I can't get a matinee ticket for something like $5, it's not really that much of an investment.
