Did you have the cartoon sex ed movie with the BOIIIIIINGGGGGG diveboard erection? I wish. I had to sit through "The Miracle of Life" five different times in various health classes complete with the uncensored sight of a baby coming out of a hairy pussy. I've seen that one. That was a tough wank.

Well, as the label at the top says, it's about the kid culture of these generations, not the years they were born. Even taking that into account, the list makes little sense. For example, it say the Nintendo is Gen X and the Super Nintendo is Millennial, but it also says the GameBoy is Millennial. The GameBoy came out two years before the Super Nintendo. Another example, it says DuckTales is Gen X and Ninja Turtles is Millennial. DuckTales and Ninja Turtles both premiered in 1987. The list was clearly made by a Zoomer who wasn’t around in the 80s and 90s. “Early Millennial” culture begins with Muppet Babies — which isn’t even on the list. There isn’t the nuance of older kid/younger kid culture. Older kids were watching He-Man/G.I. Joe/Transformers. Younger kids were watching Muppet Babies/Smurfs/Gummy Bears. DuckTales/Ninja Turtles is when “Late Gen-X” crosses over into teen category and “Early Millennial” takes over. That list needs a little bit more 80’s thrown in. Where’s Nickelodeon’s Double Dare? Where’s Full House? Where’s Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers? Where’s Beetlejuice/Batman ‘89? “Early Millennial” culture is not strictly 90’s. There’s a ton of 80’s stuff we grew up on. They put Ren & Stimpy first on the list as if David the Gnome wasn’t our first exposure to Nickelodeon. Or Eureka’s Castle. So were we. 1godzillafan and I were watching Three Stooges and I Love Lucy and Gilligan’s Island and Looney Tunes and Hanna Barbera and Max Fletcher. All the old Disney stuff. 1950’s Zorro. That’s mostly what cable television was back then. Old stuff. 1960’s Batman. Green Hornet. The list goes on. I think most people get into music in their teens. As a kid you mostly listen to whatever your parents listen to — or if you have an older sibling you listen to their stuff.

Shit, I was watching Gilligan's Island the other day. I was all like "Fuck you, Game of Thrones! I got my saga right here!"

As a kid you mostly listen to whatever your parents listen to — or if you have an older sibling you listen to their stuff. When it comes to the Gameboy, I can speak to that a bit. While it did come out during Generation X, it wasn't exactly a staple. I wasn't friends with a single kid who had one. In my early twenties, I worked in the video game department at Toys R Us. While I was there, Nintendo did a big marketing push on the Gameboy. If memory serves, the price came down a bit as well. I went from selling a few of them every week to selling a dozen a day. Every kid had to have one. Ninja Turtles is indeed late GenX, but if you look at the graphic, it's in the GenX section as well. I think the music issue varies, depending upon where you live. In my case, I was only exposed to my parents music for the most part from birth until 4th Grade. During that time, we always lived in very small towns with only one radio station. We listened to Country/Western because that's all there was. When we moved to D/FW (#5 radio market in the US at the time), everything in my life related to music changed. There was suddenly dozens of different radio stations that played a wider variety of music than I even knew existed. That same year, a new cable channel called MTV debuted, and shook things up a bit as well. The fact that MTV isn't on that infographic is practically a criminal oversight. Every kid watched MTV. I didn't even have cable, but I still managed to watch MTV at a neighbors house.

I've said for a long time that I don't really consider myself a Millennial because my experiences are just so different from those of other Millennials. Like NE said, I grew up watching old stuff, shows that had been off the air for 20 or 30 years by that point. They used to run Gilligan's Island and Brady Bunch all the time. Fox aired I Love Lucy religiously. The earliest tvs I remember my family having had the metal knobs on them. My brother is 30 and doesn't remember any of that. He doesn't even remember not having a computer.
I mentioned this tidbit before as well but kids these days don't know the art of literally memorizing a movie. When we were young we could only watch whatever was on tv at that very moment or whatever our parents were kind enough to buy for us on VHS. I had Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Batman, T2 and a handful of other choice selections. When nothing was on tv I would just throw one of those on. Again and again and again. I can recite entire sequences from any of those. People don't even think about that anymore because they have 10,000 selections to choose from at any time. It's a shame, quite a shame.

I mentioned this tidbit before as well but kids these days don't know the art of literally memorizing a movie. I've heard many a parent describe their kid watching Frozen on repeat and have probably "memorized" it. This isn't a technical limitation, this is a pretty universal reality of child attention spans.

And Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie and Dick Van Dyke And In the Heat of the Night with Archie Bunker And Amen with George Jefferson I didn’t have a computer till 1998 when the Compaq Presario was all the rage. Except for rich kids who had those weirdly shaped Mac’s that came in different colors. I’ve watched Batman ‘89 enough times to do a one-man-play on it. Nick at Nite revamped its schedule every year. They’d air I Love Lucy and The Munsters one year. Then the next it’d be Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley the other year. Norman Lear shows and Three’s Company after that. Then Cheers and Family Ties and Cosby Show. So on and so forth. So depending on your age and history with Nick at Nite, you either watched realllyyy old shows or shows that were fairly recent. At one point they were airing Wings and Mad About You. Shows that I had watched in their original broadcast. Speaking of which, anyone remembers when the USA Network was the Wings and Saved By The Bell: The New Class channel? That’s all those motherfuckers showed. That and Ninja Turtles and that Mortal Kombat cartoon and beach cops show with AC Slater.

The year my family pulled a Homer Simpson and got illegal cable was the year that Pay-Per-View aired Robocop 2 on a loop. I watched that shit enough times to re-enact the scene in which Robocop electrocuted himself.

Mine was white plastic, had 2 dials, and wasn't digital - it'd flip cards that you could hear occasionally clicking
