I don't think there was a definitive reason other than my parents (dad primarily) didn't want me watching 'garbage' or anything he considered stupid or mind-numbing. It was only a few short years afterwards that he told me I wasn't allowed to watch Simpsons or Married With Children which enabled me to watch every episode of those two shows I could get my hands on.

My earliest memory of Nickelodeon is Eureka's Castle. I bet they didn't let you watch that either. He probably didn't know that those were the two biggest "adult" shows of our childhood. You were gonna watch it, regardless, just cause of peer pressure.

I was in the same boat. My parents were a little bit more lenient with The Simpsons, but Married With Children was a big no no.

My parents were a little bit more lenient with The Simpsons, but Married With Children was a big no no. Married with Children had more sex, but The Simpsons had more violence. Welcome to America where violence is better than sex.

And what's more, Married With Children had the most infantile humor imaginable. I thought it was hilarious because I was 11. I know it was a successful comedy for several seasons but it's hard to imagine that full-fledged adults were the ones tuning in and enjoying it rather than me and my hordes of pre-teen boys.

There weren't any shows that I wasn't allowed to watch as a kid, but I remember a lot of sighs and eye rolling from my mother when my brother, dad, and I would watch Beavis and Butthead or The Simpsons.

Married With Children had the most infantile humor imaginable. Actually, Married with Children is one of the most inconsistent shows in the history of television. TBS airs it in the after hours. I've re-watched all 11 seasons countless times and it always makes me scratch my head. The early "Steve" episodes were mostly about gender battles, generational points of view and class differences. Many of the episodes are actually great and respectable television. Then there's the later "Steve" episodes and the early "Jefferson" episodes where the show does become a live-action cartoon. Those are the worst seasons, but they do have a few classics like Al visiting the sex store, the sex tape fiasco and, my personal favorite, Al getting glasses. Then there's the later "Jefferson" episodes, or the No Ma'am era, which is the ones we grew up with and those, maybe it's nostalgia talking, are usually pretty good. In those seasons, the show moved away from the family aspect and focused on Al's shenanigans with his friends and/or on Bud and Kelly trying to get into show business or dealing with relationship issues. The plot lines tended to be more varied and it kept the show interesting, I think. There weren't any shows that I wasn't allowed to watch as a kid Yeah, I was on the same boat. My mom didn't care what I watched as long as it wasn't porn.

Don't forget about the episode where Al goes to hell after making a deal with Robert Englund as the Devil that he could have his soul if Al becomes a Super Bowl quarterback.

Yeah, my parents were pretty chill about what I watched. I watched a lot of action movies with my dad from the time I was probably 6 or 7. Any sense of what content was "inappropriate" was shattered the summer before I started high school. I distinctly remember my parents talking and my Dad saying, "Oh for Christ sake, the boy's in high school. Let em watch what he wants."

You were too young for the Hannah Montana movie.

My brother and I used to play Donald Duck's Playground at my grandma's on her commodore 64. Fast forward to around 3:47 for the greatest sound ever. Donald absolutely loses his shit when he drops the watermelon *edit* and again at 4:18 when he drops the...... grapefruit?
