I really want to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it just seems like they don't care about any of the original fans. They want new fans, that love the action and have no idea about what the original was doing.

It would've been nice to have had a director with no connection to the Fast and Furious franchise. On the bright sight, the movie will only be called Trek 3. And if he sticks around, we'll get Star 4 in 2018. |

This why I don't have a problem with Lin. He seems to at least have the sense to understand the essence of a thing. Just because a majority of his work is the Fast and Furious franchise doesn't mean it's the only thing he can make. Maybe he's branching out. Either way, I am less concerned with his ability to make a movie and more concerned with Paramount's insistence on this becoming Guardians of the Galaxy.

Orci knows best. It’s a shame he’s not writing and directing, as surely we’d be in for the greatest Star Trek movie of all time… Star Trek 3 is set for release on July 8th, 2016.

Orci is a hack and a dick. He's able to churn out cookie-cutter, easy to shoot scripts in a timely manner. He's a studio pushover. That's why he keeps getting work.
Just because you're in the business and can find work doesn't mean you know better. Just ask Friedberg and Seltzer.
