Still even films in 2K have a fairly strong transfer on 4K discs that come off quite well on the format. Is it a lighter uptick in quality? Yep, but I have no regrets on any 2K purchases I have made.
Except Suicide Squad. Avoid that disc like the plague even if you like the movie.

So I am debating going 4K, but I dont want to split my movie collection in two parts. Can I justify mixing two formats? Of course you can. Now granted I mix my DVDs with my blu-rays so my opinion on this might not be worth that much to you. For what it's worth 4K discs are the same approximate height as blu-rays, so they don't stick out as much in your collection. Also, every single UHD on the market that I'm aware of comes packaged with a blu-ray copy in the case (and usually all the bonus features will be on the blu-ray), so technically you could justify to yourself that these are still blu-rays you're putting in your collection that just so happen to come packaged with other discs that are much better. Yeah, the same size cases and the fact that the format is called 4K bluray, making it more an enhanced bluray than anything else, may make it okay. I'm still a ways away from getting a new tv, but I am thinking about buying the combo pack for Last Jedi, as it is what is available in steelbook. And since I have the other 7 star wars movies in steelbook....

Doomsday Dracula IanTheCool PG CooperThe Matrix out on May 22nd. 4K transfer supervised by Bill Pope. But I don’t know what that means since they fucked up the movie after the sequels by replacing the blue tint with green so the trilogy would have visual synchronization. They pulled a Lucas. So I don’t know if Pope restored the original or the b.s. green version. The cover is green which is not a good sign and there’s also an HDR version. OR the 4K is in HDR. I don’t know. Someone get me answers!

HDR is more like a setting on the 4K version. It's an extra degree of color range present on the disc if your TV is capable of picking it up.

Don't haze me but I've gone digital. We have an extensive Blu-ray collection thanks to the Mrs. having a huge collection. But the quality of the digital movies is just as solid as discs (was always a gripe before) so I'm fine with it.
Now gaming...I still go physical copy unless I have to get digital.

I can't get behind digital because I don't want to rely on an internet connection to watch a damn movie. Especially in this state where internet is pretty shit.

My Xbox One S and Apple TV have digital downloads for 4K HDR movies. So you are right, it's better to just watch online if you have a good internet connection.

The downside to The Matrix in 4K is that they're releasing it the same day as the Jurassic Park collection. So pricey.
And I barely have enough time to heal before the Mission: Impossible and The Incredibles 4Ks hit.

They’re starting to force 4K on us.
All the fancy editions of Avengers: Infinity War are on 4K combo pack. If you’re getting blu-ray you get the standard edition like a peasant. Walmart is even now selling “exclusive” blu-ray only editions - you blu ray people don’t even deserve a digital copy.

With Black Panther and Infinity War the Wal-Marts in my area haven't been getting their 4K shipments until like a week after their release dates. So if they're forcing 4K on us they're doing a shit job.

I picked up the regular Blu Ray today and the Special Features on it look good enough for me. Then again, I rarely watch Special Features nowadays, unless it's a movie I really like.

Is it just me, or do the covers for most 4K blurays look awful?

Is it just me, or do the covers for most 4K blurays look awful? Well, most of them are identical to the blu-rays but with a different strip at the top... so yeah, it's probably just you.

I guess its mostly with the calatog titles. Look at the covers for ET, Apollo 13, or Braveheart. Yeesh.

Braveheart is the same image as the Saphire series blu-ray, the other two aren't great (or good) but that probably has less to do with the format than with the studios not putting the same budget into graphic design as they used to.

My copy of ET is a lenticular of ET and Elliott flying in front of the moon. I've always been pleased with it.

Ian's love affair with plasma is well documented and, frankly, sordid.
