Stop reminding me that I can't see this movie yet you asshole! Thought you were invited to Nolan’s private screening room.

Tenet has grossed $126 million internationally. Domestically, it made $20.2 million this weekend. Tomorrow is Labor Day but I don’t know if that makes a difference in the middle of a pandemic. Global total at $146.2 million

Wow that's pretty awful. I'm impressed people decided against it themselves.

Wow that's pretty awful. I'm impressed people decided against it themselves. Yeah, considering New Mutants managed to eek out $7 million the week before that's really not great.

Wow that's pretty awful. I'm impressed people decided against it themselves. It’s not great. Exhibitors are disappointed. But it was worse before. New Mutants & Unhinged didn’t move the needle. This did. It’s Tenet or nothing. We'll see how Wonder Woman does — assuming everything doesn’t shut down again. School started. It’s Labor Day weekend. If there’s a spike it’ll be at the end of September or early October. Studios need to just let Drive-In’s takeover. We just opened up a new one that’s doing gangbusters, and in Doomsday‘s turf, a drive-in is outselling brick & mortar theatres in the rest of the country. But Mr. Nolan refuses to let Tenet play at the drive-in. Guy makes great movies, but he’s really fucking stupid.

Tenet has reached $207 million worldwide. $177.5M of that is from international grosses. North America is lacking behind.
Mulan grossed $23.2M in China.

The fact that it's doing so well internationally suggests that the virus is the problem and not the movie, so putting out much of anything until the virus is under control is probably leaving a wad of money on the table. I would not count on Wonder Woman or Dune coming out this year.

Domestic box office is atrocious. But get jersey and New York and Cali by November could help.

Dracula WyldstaarThe Eight Hundred is now the 10th highest grossing film of all-time in China. Good to know they're post-pandemic over there.

Empire has been playing at the dollar theater since July and the Regal since it reopened. What the fuck is this noise? Empire has been playing at the dollar theater since July and the Regal since it reopened. What the fuck is this noise? Might explain why that's the one they've been ready to go with DCPs of instead of New Hope or Return of the Jedi (which I haven't seen anyone showing) Empire Strikes Back grossed $908K this weekend. I’d wager if NY/LA were open it would have cracked $1M.

DraculaHere is Tenet’s international breakdown. These are total grosses as of 9/27. China — $64.3M UK — $19.6M France — $18M Germany — $14.6M South Korea — $13.1M Japan — $11.4M Taiwan — $10.6M Russia — $9.6M Spain — $7.9M Australia — $7.2M Italy — $7.2M Netherlands — $7M At $41.2M in the US, that makes China and the US the two biggest markets for Tenet. Safe to say that Tenet is a major disappointment in the UK. It opened their first. Tom Cruise even showed up to watch it. But it’s somehow lacking behind.

I’m looking at Nolan’s UK grosses. Dark Knight made $89M. Far cry from the $533M it made in the US. Inception made $56M. The US gross was $292M. Dark Knight Rises made $90M. On par with DK on a surface level but with inflation it likely sold less tickets. Deexan favorite Interstellar made $31M. The US gross was $188M. Low for Nolan standards. Dunkirk did $80M. Better than Inception. Makes sense considering it’s British themed. The US gross was $188M, same as Interstellar. To create some baseline, Skyfall made $161M in the UK. Force Awakens made $163M. Avengers: Endgame made $114M. I’m gonna use Dunkirk’s $80M as a goalpost. If Tenet could make $40M in the UK, half of Dunkirk, WB will be happy. And it’s probably what MGM/Universal is looking at for No Time To Die. If Tenet could do 40, James Bond could easily do 80. I would apply that logic to US as well. Right now, I think Bond could crack $100M. The elephant in the room, of course, is the 2nd wave of the pandemic. James Bond needs to move to October. That November slot, with flu season, is not gonna work. They need to make a decision right away.

Bill & Ted has made $32M on VOD. MGM keeps 80% of that. It has grossed $3.3M theatrically. They gave theatres 70% of that.

Tenet has made it to $307M worldwide before the closure of Regal in the US and UK. Meanwhile, 1993’s Hocus Pocus grossed $1.9M this weekend. Over at China, Jiang Ziya: Legend of Deification made $11.5M in IMAX alone.
