It was my idea to hire Carl Weathers. Everything else was downhill from there.

Doomsday SnoBorderZero Dracula WyldstaarDisney’s 4-week stranglehold on exhibitors is over. Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker loses 1,226 theatres this week. Jumanji: The Next Level is actually playing in more theatres than Star Wars. If this sounds familiar, it’s cause the same thing happened in January 2018 when Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was more popular than Star Wars: The Last Jedi. 2020’s first flop The Grudge lost 1,665 theatres. Uncut Gems, snubbed at the Oscars, lost 1,151 theatres.

MLK Weekend Box Office January is typically a shit month in which the only movies worth watching are Oscar season holdovers, but Bad Boys For Life has become an exception to the rule. It opened to an impressive $73 million. With Aladdin in 2019 and now Bad Boys 3, Will Smith shows he still has a fight in this game. Robert Downey Jr, on the other hand, is diving into “Johnny Depp territory” with his first post-Marvel movie, Dolittle. It disappointed with $28.3 million. It also adds another blow to Universal, which is still in damage control from Cats. Universal does have 1917, however, the Oscar hopeful dropped from #1 to #3 with $26.9 million ($81.5 million total). It’s possible audiences weren’t too awe-inspired by the film. Opening this weekend is Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen , which is already out in Deexan’s homeland .

If they had made it sooner, Bad Boys 3 would have made The Force Awakens monies.

Final numbers are in.
Bad Boys 3 still at #1 with $34 million. $120.6 million total.
1917 and Dolittle hanging in there, which is okay-ish news for Universal since they have another flop on their hands. The Turning. Second movie this year to receive the F cinemascore. It flopped, unsurprisingly. Universal can’t wait for that James Bond movie to come out.
Opening next weekend is... nothing. It’s Super Bowl weekend. Keep making that money, Dolittle.

How can there be a trailer for a movie that doesn’t exist? There are trailers for The New Mutants, and I'm having a difficult time believing that movie exists at this point.

I know Dracula was disappointed I didn’t cover the virus outbreak in China and its effects on the box office, but here’s a video that does:
