The question now is, will it have the same legs? And the answer is: probably not. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if it ultimately grosses less than Black Panther domestically. This is too much of a movie for the fans, anyone who's all that interested has probably already seen it. That said, it is already the second highest grossing movie of the year, so who knows.

The difference between Black Panther and Infinity War is $438 million. The movie will likely do another $100 million between Monday and Thursday, and let’s say, drop 50% next weekend. That should put the total at $475 million, leaving the difference at $213 million. Infinity War will then have another weekend to itself, before Deadpool 2 opens. Let’s say it does $25 million during the weekday and drops another 50% on the weekend. That puts it at $562 million, making the difference only $126 million. Avengers will make that in the remainder of its theatrical run. The movie will make AT LEAST $700 million domestically.

Weekend estimates are in. Avengers: Infinity War opened to $250 million, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The question now is, will it have the same legs? Part of having legs is having weak competition, which is something Avengers: Infinity War is going to enjoy for the next two weekends. After that, the Summer movie season ramps up with Deadpool 2, followed by Solo: A Star Wars Clusterfuck, Upgrade, Ocean's 8, The Incredibles II, Jurassic World: Fallen Franchise, etc... 2018 is going to be a monster of a year of Disney, regardless. I don't know what Solo is going to do, but The Incredibles II is going to crush it, and there's lots of potential later in the year as well.

Solo may do better than people expect but it's not gonna make "Star Wars money." The Incredibles 2 is gonna be the next monster hit. So the Avengers has enough wiggle room to make good movie. $700 million is the bare minimum for this movie.

Say whatever you want but the prequels are much better films than Episodes 7 and 8.. At least the prequels tried to expand the Star Wars Universe, the new movies only serve nostalgia and bringing back the original cast.

If it had been released in China, Infinity War would already have reached the billion dollar mark. It's not being released there until next Friday. Avengers: Age of Ultron made $240 million in China, with $155.7 million of that on opening weekend.

Please let this movie dethrone Avatar... Unfortunately, that doesn't seem likely. While Avatar performed well in the US, it's reception in the foreign market boggles the mind.
