Welcome to 2015, the year Doomsday has been waiting for! Despite being trashed by critics, audiences still love watching Liam Neeson murder people in spectacular fashion. Taken 3 grossed $40 million this weekend. Opening next weekend is Blackhat, directed by Michael Mann and starring THOR.

DraculaiverdawgDoomsdayPG CooperSnoBorderZeroJustin@dukeleto $90 million. Let me say that again. $90 million. That's how much American Sniper made this weekend. $90 million. And tomorrow is a holiday, so there is more money to be made. American Sniper IS the "blockbuster" of the Oscar nominees this year. How will that affect the actual Oscars? Time will tell.

I'm guessing you guys don't watch television. Warner Bros deserves an Oscar for the marketing. Those TV spots are probably the best TV spots I've ever seen. Oh, and American Sniper broke the January record for biggest opening and is Clint Eastwood's biggest opening ever.

American Sniper was way better than Fury.
The ending of Fury became unrealistic.
American Sniper is in my opinion deserves all the praise it's well acted, directed, extremely well told!!
Right now the only 2 movies that deserve best picture win are American Sniper and Selma.

I'm with Neverending: the marketing for American Sniper was some of the best for any movie last year and that, combined with the fact that it was fresh off a Best Picture nomination, makes it no surprise that people flocked to see it. Warner Bros. knew what they were doing. I have to give them credit.

The official numbers are in... and it was an excellent weekend for doomsday. Clint Eastwood's American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper, grossed $107 million. And Michael Mann's Blackhat, starring Chris Hemsworth, became the first true flop of 2015 with $4.4 million. These are the type of box office stories that Doomsday loves to read. Opening on Friday are... The Boy Next Door, that ridiculous Jennifer Lopez movie where "the boy" looks 30, Johnny Depp's next flop Mortdecai, and George Lucas' random animated film Strange Magic.

Welp, we're officially in January when shitty lineups like that make up the weekend releases.

It pains me to see that a Michael Mann movie was the first bomb of 2015. Still, that movie looked like shit regardless of the 'directed by Michael Mann' in the trailer.

You should do a recording session where you say various hip-hop colloquialisms in a heavy London accent.

The big blockbusters of summer 2015 Once upon a time, summer blockbuster season 2015 was set to be packed with the biggest collision of big franchises we'd ever seen together However, one by one, lots of these films moved away to other dates.

The Mortdecai reviews are slowing seeping through.
In summary: It's fecking gash.

DoomsdayDraculaPG CooperSnoBorderZeroJustinLet's be real. Critics ARE important. They bring awareness to smaller movies. They caution us about a trainwreck. BUT... and this a BIG but... crtitcs do have to sell newspapers and website ads. So... sometimes... they are full of shit. Sometimes they do have to attract attention to themselves and their publication instead of the actual movies. These reviews for Mortdecai are clearly a farce: It's hard to escape the suspicion that the only people sure to enjoy 'Mortdecai' are Depp, Paltrow, Tim Burton and Madonna. It's hard to think of a way in which the experience of watching the new Johnny Depp film could be any worse, unless you returned home afterwards to discover that Depp himself had popped round while you were out and set fire to your house.I'm not trying to defend Mortdecai. This will probably be another low-point in Johnny Depp's career, but he has become an easy target for critics. After The Lone Ranger and Transcendence, he has becoming a punching bag and I don't think that's entirely fair. One of Depp's upcoming movies is Black Mass where he plays the notorious Boston mobster, Whitey Bulger. So, Depp IS trying to restore his career and critics should chill for a bit. Wait till the end of 2015 to see if there is hope for Depp.

Well, I like Depp a lot. Still a great actor, despite his recent output. I'd just like to see his "normal" side, something more subtle like Secret Window.

Yeah, I too have a hard time believing Mortdecai is that bad. I'm also rooted for Depp to make a comeback.

I think Depp has become a little too reliant on a couple of tricks that are rapidly getting old, he needs to reinvent himself and fast.
