Called it. Ridley Scott lost his touch a while ago. I'm not even excited for the Blade Runner sequel if he's directing it.

I don't think it would even matter if he directs it or not. It will be bad, not to mention that it already comes across as an act of desperation. Philip K. Dick has nothing to do with it, which makes it even worse.

I would love it if Ridley Scott would return to form and make another historical epic that's worth a shit. I just rewatched the Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut last week, still one of my favs.
First up though we need to get Mel's Viking film.

If everything goes well, Mel will have his all-Skinhead-cast up and ready for his Nazi viking film.

At least he'll be able to comfortably have an all-white cast.

And where was the black representation in THAT one?? Better question: where's the Mexican representation in most Hollywood movies? Like Chris Rock recently said, "studio executives are the only people in Los Angeles who pretend Mexicans don't exist." You can criticize Mel Gibson all you want but he has Apocalypto and Get The Gringo under his belt. That's a better batting average for Latino representation in movies than most filmmakers in Hollywood.

I was kidding, I love Mel Gibson as a filmmaker and can't stand racial/gender/whatever quotas in movies that people are pushing more and more.

Ridley has always been a little inconsistent, but he still puts out great films every now and then. Prometheus was awesome and that was only two years ago. Throughout the 2000s he also had Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven, and American Gangster. The notion that he's washed up is a little silly. Having said that, I too am dreading the Blade Runner sequel.

Hobbit 3 has grossed $90 million since opening on Tuesday night. It's not bad, but it's not good either. Although the movie is doing good business overseas. It has grossed $265 million so far.
Opening on Christmas is a lot of movies: The Gambler, Into the Woods and Unbroken.
American Sniper, Big Eyes and Selma will be in limited release for Oscar qualifications.

Unbroken, the WWII movie directed by Angelina Jolie, was #1 on Christmas with about $15 million. I guess since the youth stayed home to stream The Interview, old folks went out to support Oscar bait. iverdawgDraculaPG Cooper

The reviews are negative and the Globes didn't bite, so I'm hoping this gets ignored. I have enough to see in the next few weeks.

I also hope it just goes away, but rumor has it that there's now a lot of sympathy out there for Jolie because of all the shit talking in those Rudin e-mails and that the Academy may end up throwing her a bone because of it.

Boy I hope not, those kind of petty politics in award shows is exactly why people get turned off by them. Whatever, let her have her nomination. It's not like she's winning Best Director over Linklater or Inarritu anyways.
