By the end of this weekend, or Monday at the latest, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be the #1 movie of all-time. On one hand, this is a big deal because James Cameron has been dethrone after 18 years. On the other hand, let's not forget inflation. Let's forget about money for a second and just focus on ticket sales. Titanic sold 128 million tickets in 1997 and `98. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has sold 79 million tickets. It needs to sell 50 million tickets if it wants to surpass Cameron's most successful movie. Avatar, by the way, sold 95 million tickets.

China doesn't care for Star Wars It's hard to judge what will go over well in China. They certainly don't have a history with the series dating back to 1977 the way most of the First World does, but that doesn't mean they won't like The Force Awakens.

Force Awakens is now the biggest domestic gross film of all time. Passing Avatar.

Doomsday Dracula PG Cooper SnoBorderZero IanTheCool Wyldstaar FShuttariFor the first time since 1983, Star Wars is back at #1. Here's a look back. May 1984 (a year after Return of the Jedi) 1. E.T. (1982) - $359.1 million 2. Star Wars (1977) - $322.7 million 3. Jaws (1975) - $260 million 4. Return of the Jedi (1983) - $252.5 million 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - $242.3 million 6. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - $222.6 million 7. The Exorcist (1973) - $193 million 8. Gone with the Wind (1939) - $189.5 million 9. Tootsie (1982) - $177.2 million 10. Grease (1978) - $159.9 million Note: Steven Spielberg and George Lucas dominate the top 10 with 6 movies combined. Also note, Gone with the Wind is in the top 10 - in 1984. Next time someone bitches about "adjusted for inflation", point that out. The success of that movie is unique and should be acknowledged. June 1994 (a year after Jurassic Park) 1. E.T. (1982) - $399.8 million 2. Jurassic Park (1993) - $346.2 million 3. Star Wars (1977) - $322.7 million 4. Home Alone (1990) - $285.7 million 5. Return of the Jedi (1983) - $263.8 million 6. Jaws (1975) - $260 million 7. Batman (1989) - $251.1 million 8. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - $242.3 million 9. Ghostbusters (1984) - $238.6 million 10. Beverly Hills Cop (1984) - $234.7 million Note: Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, Batman and Home Alone. December 1998 (a year after Titanic) 1. Titanic (1997) - $600.7 million 2. Star Wars (1977) - $460.9 million 3. E.T. (1982) - $399.8 million 4. Jurassic Park (1993) - $357 million 5. Forest Gump (1994) - $329.6 million 6. The Lion King (1994) - $312.8 million 7. Return of the Jedi (1983) - $309.3 million 8. Independence Day (1996) - $306.1 million 9. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - $290.2 million 10. Home Alone (1990) - $285.7 million Note: All three Star Wars movies are back in the top 10 thanks to the 1997 Special Edition release. The first Star Wars, in particular, got a major boost. Today1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) - $764.4 million 2. Avatar - $760.5 million 3. Titanic - $658.6 million 4. Jurassic World - $652.2 million 5. The Avengers - $623.3 million 6. The Dark Knight - $534.8 million 7. The Phantom Menace - $474.5 million 8. Star Wars - $460.9 million 9. Avengers: Age of Ultron - $459 million 10. The Dark Knight Rises - $448.1 million Note: No movie directed by Steven Spielberg is in the top 10. The original Star Wars will be out of the top 10 in the next couple of years, unless there's another re-release. Three Star Wars are in the top 10 and each one is from a different trilogy. Titanic is the only movie in the top 10 that isn't part of a franchise. James Cameron, George Lucas and Christopher Nolan dominate the top 10 with 6 movies combined.

Also to consider. Jurassic World was produced by Spielberg, so doesn't that mean he's still in the top 10 running...

Worth remembering that if you adjust for inflation The Force Awakens is barely in the top twenty.

The Force Awakens just became the biggest film of all time at the UK box office.
That was quick.

SnoBorderZero FShuttariIf it makes James Cameron and his fans feel better, Titantic and Avatar had much better legs. It hasn't even been a month since Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released and it's already fighting to remain in the #1 spot. On Friday, The Revenant, yes, The Revenant, was the #1 movie. Will it be the #1 movie for the weekend? Most people think it won't because Saturday and Sunday is when families go to the movie theaters and that'll give Star Wars the edge. Either way, it'll be a close race and the chances of Star Wars making $1 billion domestically are unlikely at this point.

It would have been cool to see Force Awakens hit a billion domestically.

Stellan Skarsgård kicking it with the big boys (and girl).
I'm assuming his non-Marvel movies made up that .9.

You'd think, but he was also in Good Will Hunting, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Mamma Mia!, Angels & Demons, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Cinderella (2015) which all made over 100 million. Go figure.

Good for The Revenant, I didn't think it would do that well but DiCaprio reeled people in.

The #1 movie this past 4-day weekend wasn't Star Wars. No. It was something better - much better. Ride Along 2 was #1 with $41 million. At #2 was The Revenant with $37.5 million. Its 2 week total is $95.7 million. At #3 was Star Wars with $33 million. Its 5 week total is $858.9 million. Michael Bay's 13 Hours was #4 with $19.2 million. It cost $50 million to make.
Opening on Friday is The 5th Wave, The Boy and Dirty Grandpa.

The only people that make lazier movies than Kevin Hart are Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Marlon Wayans. And yet their movies make money. Representation of the people paying to see these shit movies? Yeah, I'd say there's a definite correlation.
