China is the likely tipping point between whether or not a sequel happens, but I'm not so sure they'll be enough. US movie studios only get 25% of the box office in China, so that $26.6 million gets whittled away to only $6.65 million by the time Paramount Pictures gets their hands on it. It will depend on how much staying power T5 has there. Leave it to China to eat up the crap we don't like. The movie BOMBED here even with the PG-13 rating (which I argue actually hurt it, no teens care about Terminator or Arnold anyways) and yet it's done great overseas which will likely allow them to move ahead with making the next film. They're probably just gonna set it in Hong Kong this time around and go all in on China. Transformers 4 grossed $320 million in China. Furious 7 grossed $390 million in China. And the Avengers 2 has grossed $240 million in China. Terminator 5 should gross $150-200 million in China. Maybe more. They rescued the franchise. Or maybe the word of mouth ends up being just as bad there as it is here and people stop going after the first week...

Yeah, they're big haters of Back to the Future and Looper over there.

Straight Outta Compton is still #1. It has grossed $134.1 million domestically in three weeks.
Faith-based movie, The War Room, is #2 with $11 million.
No Escape flopped at #3 with $10.3 million. Pierce Brosnan can't catch a break.
The summer movie season ends next weekend with The Transporter Refueled.

We have been in some kind of rut this month. Other than Compton and Mission Impossible it has been a real slog for awhile with new releases. I'm not remotely interested in anything coming out for the next couple weeks either. Which is fine because there's some must see fare on the near horizon, but still this was a really uneventful August.

BOX OFFICE HISTORYDoomsday 's favorite movie, Bring It On, opened at #1 and went on to become a classic among perverts. Happy 20th anniversary to Desperado! Happy 25th anniversary to Darkman! Happy 30th anniversary to Teen Wolf!

Teen Wolf is pretty lame. And the sequel has the worst pun title of all time.

That trailer makes you feel really bad for Jason Bateman, and also really happy that he's had a career after that. That's a good candidate for your bad movie thread.

Congrats to @dukeleto . The faith-based movie, War Room, was #1 this weekend.
Opening on Friday is the return of M. Night - The Visit.

The studios are cranking out so many crappy movies these days that January and February can't contain them all, and September is the new dumping ground. At least Black Mass looks interesting.

By contrast, November and December are overloaded and October has become a major player. This year we're getting The Martian, Steve Jobs, Bridge of Spies and Crimson Peak.
