Wow Drac, Good Wife of Game of thrones (possibly their best season) and true detective?
Also, you hated Enemy? Why if I may ask?

Wow Drac, Good Wife of Game of thrones (possibly their best season) and true detective? Also, you hated Enemy? Why if I may ask? I like to spread the wealth a bit with these TV awards and didn't want to give it to Game of Thrones every year (it was close). True Detective had a lot of good elements and that earned it a nomination but I never really got the over the top praise for the show and don't think its ending delivered. The Good Wife on the other hand had been quietly delivering year after year and this was the season where there was a shock twist that had everyone talking. As for Enemy, I'll just quote my Letterboxd:

2009Best Film:Inglorious Basterds In the Loop A Prophet Winner: Inglorious Basterds Best Videogame:Assassin's Creed II Batman: Arkham Asylum Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Winner: Batman: Arkham Asylum Worst Movie:Dragonball Evolution Post Grad X-Men Origins: Wolverine Winner: Dragonball Evolution Best Song:"Eating the Cannibals", by Black Sabbath (Heaven and Hell)It was really cool to hear Dio back with Black Sabbath again, and this particularly song is my favourite from the reunion. It's driven by some really good guitar work and Dio still belts it out like the legend he is. "Hate Worldwide", SlayerFor better or worse, Slayer's sound has remained largely unchanged throughout their 30 year history. "Hate Worldwide" isn't any different in this regard, but as a fan of the style, I enjoy it. Very aggressive track which never lets up. "I Think I'll Start a Fire", FauntsThis is a pretty sharp turn from the music I usually listen to, but the fact us I really like this electronic rock group. Their songs have a sort of hypnotic feel and I really like the melancholy tone of their music. The whole album is quite strong, but ultimately "I Think I'll Start a Fire" stands out with a unique sound and the fact, in spite of the melancholy, the track still has a real energy. Winner: "I Think I'll Start a Fire", Faunts

Best Hit SongDay N Night by Kid CudiStill the greatest accomplishments of alt-Hip-Hop's greatest under-achiever, a really moody song about lonely people getting high at the end of the day. Cool production. Down by Jay Sean Ft. Lil Wayne Basically a bubblegum pop song disguised as urban music, but a good one. The chorus is really catchy and the song has aged surprisingly well. Also has an amusing little verse from Lil Wayne as most songs did that year. Not sure what ended up happening to Jay Sean, dude basically turned out to be a one-hit wonder, but he left his impression. Heartless by Kanye WestIn 2009 Kanye was experimenting with a new style which involved auto-tune singing over melancholy beats as opposed to his usual maximalist hip-hop. The resulting album, 808s and Heartbreak, took some getting used to but I think it holds up, kind of Here My Dear for the 21st Century. It proved to be surprisingly commercial too, it's biggest hit was Heartless, a raw little number about yeezy's latest breakup. Poker Face by Lady GagaThe lyrics are a little shaky and the bridge around 2:18 is dreadful, but those hooks are really a work of art. Run This TownAn awesome ominous posse track from team RocNation that's been used in dozens of commercials and is something of a stadium anthem because of how much of a statement of introduction it makes. Winner: Run This Town

2008Best PictureThe Dark Knight Rachel Getting Married The Wrestler Winner: The Dark Knight Best VideogameFallout 3 Grand Theft Auto IV Rock Band 2 Winner: Grand Theft Auto IV Best Song"All Nightmare Long", MetallicaI love Metallica, but there's no denying they became a lot less Metal in the 90s and a lot more hard rock. Death Magnetic felt like a return to the form. The band was back to playing thrash metal and listening to it felt like coming home. "All Nightmare Long" is the highlight of the album. The song features some really awesome instrumental work and the lyrics are really evocative. Cool video too. "Delights and Angers", In FlamesRaw anger and emotion, with a great blend of intense riffs and melody. "Inside the Fire", DisturbedIt's no surprise this was the big hit single off of Indestructible. The song deals with a really heavy subject matter (suicide) in a serious, but also very accessible way. It's a surprisingly catchy track with some memorable lyrics and a lot of energy. "Persecution", Judas PriestJudas Priest's epic concept album on famous writer Nostradamus is a little uneven, but it also has some really great stuff. This track is probably the best thing the album offers; a really intense and epic peace dealing with the oppression of the church. The song also works taken out of context as just a general battle cry against church oppression, fitting in with classic Priest themes of rebellion and defiance. Winner: "All Nightmare Long", Metallica

Film of the YearNominees: Rachel Getting Married Dark Knight, The 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days Wrestler, The Revanche Winner: Rachel Getting Married Worst Movie of the YearNominees: Quantum of Solace Rambo Punisher: War Zone Under the Same Moon Happening, The "Winner": The Happening TV Show of the YearNominees: Breaking Bad (Season 1) It's Always Sunny in Philedelphia (Season 4) Mad Men (Season 2) The Shield (Season 7) The Wire (Season 5) Winner: The Shield Video Game of the YearNominees: Grand Theft Auto IV Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Braid Dead Space Fallout 3 Winner: Grand Theft Auto IV
Best Hit Song of the YearNominees: Flashing Lights by Kanye West ft. DweleThe soaring production is the ultimate soundtrack to decadence, it's been used in millions of advertisement involving the rich and glamorous for a reason. Paper Planes by M.I.A.Her place as a hitmaker fizzled almost immediately but this was a hell of a way to show up in the spotlight. This song owned the summer as soon as it showed up in the pineapple express trailer. Take a Bow by Rihanna This breakup song isn't necessarily the most lyrically inovative piece of work, but Rihanna has never sounded so classy. The piano work melds with the drum machine really well, but most importantly Rihanna really captures the feelings of resignation and relief perfectly. A Milli by Lil WayneLil Wayne was everywhere in 2008. Personally I think he's at his best when he focuses strictly on being a rhyme machine and this kind of freestyle-sounding thing is where really thrives. For whatever reason I've committed a lot of this song to memory and can recite it almost in its entirety... a skill I have never shared with another soul. Viva La Vida by ColdplayI know I'm supposed to hate this band but... honestly I'm not sure why they get people so riled up. At their worst their biggest offense is being a little boring but when they're "on" they can make some really effective and grandiose tracks and this song might have been their finest moment. Winner: Paper Planes

I thought for sure 2008 would finally be the year Drac threw heavy metal some love with a big Metallica record. That song of the year category is specifically the best hit song of the year. I'm only drawing from singles that made the Billboard year end top 100, in part because I don't have a firm enough grasp on the totality of music released in any given year to make any kind of definitive proclamations about it outside of a limited subset like that. Also, while I do own a copy of Death Magnetic and do like the song you cited I don't think I've listened to it since 2008. Beyond that and a couple of other outliers my knowledge of rock/metal recorded after about 1995 is limited.

Best PictureThere Will Be Blood Into the Wild No Country For Old Men The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford The Diving Bell and Butterfly Winner: There Will Be Blood
Worst PictureLa Vie En Rose Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Southland Tales Live Free or Die Hard Halloween Winner: Southland Tales Best TV ShowCurb Your Enthusiasm (Season 6) Friday Night Lights (Season 1) It's Always Sunny in Philedelphia (Season 3) The Sopranos (Season 6 - Part 2) Mad Men (Season 1) Winner: The Sopranos Best Video GameBioshock Team Fortress 2 Portal Mass Effect Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Winner: Mass Effect Best Hit SongAlright, so, it turns out 2007 was one of the absolute worst years in music history. If you look at the Billboard year end top 100 you will find a shit ton of infamously horrible songs on it, I had to dig deep to find five good songs. Very few of the nominees are representative of the rest of the year. "I Tried" by Bone Thugs-n-Harmony featuring AkonBone-Thugs were pretty past their prime at this point and were down to only three members at this point but I was glad to see them get something of a fluke hit just the same by getting unusually conscious and hiring the hook work of Akon (who was insanely and undeservedly popular this year). A nicely somber little rap song. "Stronger" by Kanye WestA lot of people like to say that they were fans of Daft Punk since the beginning but don't believe them, the sales numbers show that they are lying. I'll be the first to admit that the sample on this song was the first time I'd heard of them (outside of hearing One More Time a few times without knowing who made it) and Kanye finds his usual ways of sounding cool over the whole thing. It was a clever direction for him to go in after the orchestral Late Registration album. "Umbrella" by Rihanna featuring Jay-ZOne of those rare times when the uber-popular catchy smash hit really is a joy to listen to. A star is born. "Snow (Hey Oh)" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers2007 was pretty much the last year where rock and roll was a real chart force and definitely the last year where you'd see a rock band with this kind of longevity allowed onto the charts. The Chilli Peppers were actually really good in the 2000s and this was the last gasp of that great period in their career. "Rehab" by Amy WinehousePeople like to look back on Amy Winehouse like she was this huge force in music but the truth is she only ever had one popular hit in the United States and even it was something like number 74 on the year end top 100. I guess people were mainly focused on how much potential she had which went to waste (she probably should have gone to rehab). As for that one song, it's pretty interesting. Her singing was different from a lot of what was on the radio and the song has a really right groove. Winner: Umbrella

Best Film:The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford No Country for Old Men Sunshine There Will Be Blood Zodiac Winner: There Will Be Blood Best Videogame: Bioshock Mass Effect The Orange Box Winner: Bioshock Best Song: "Chasing the High" by Annihilator 80s Canadian thrash band proving they can still compete with modern Metal. This track features Lamb of God guitarist Wille Adler and it shows. An aggressive song with some really intense guitar work. "Martyr" by Soilwork Great melody and just a catchy tune. I haven't listen to much Soilwork, but this song (and the whole album really) are quite good. "Washington is Next!" by Megadeth The increasing politicization of Megadeths music has been a little problematic for me given how I feel about some of Dave Mustaine's opionions, but given that this song is mostly just a protest of those in power and cycles of violence, it works pretty well. It also features some really excellent riffing and just has a lot of energy. Winner: "Washington is Next!" by Megadeth

United 93 Worst Movie of the YearSaw III Bon Cop, Bad Cop Lady in the Water Running Scared BloodRayne "Winner"BloodRayne TV Show of the Year
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 2) Dexter (Season 1) Lost (Season 2) The Shield (Season 5) The Wire (Season 4) WinnerThe Wire Best Video GameTom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hitman: Blood Money Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent Gears of War WinnerGears of War Best Hit Song Crazy - Gnarls BarkleyI won't lie, I'd never even heard of Cee-Lo Green before this song and I wouldn't pegged him as a major hitmaker. This song is catchy as hell while also having this dark undercurrent that lends it substance. I hope Cee-Lo makes a comeback soon, he could use a third major hit. "Feel Good Inc" - Gorillaz Ft. De La SoulWhat a weird little experiment Gorillaz was, the fact that they were a cartoon band always made them seem like a bit of a novelty, but there was some solid pop-craft underneath that. This was probably their strongest track and it's crazy that they were able to give De La Soul a chart hit this late in their career. Gold Digger - Kanye West Ft. Jamie FoxxKanye West has improved over the years as a producer but he's devolved as a comedian. This is one of the funnier hip-hop hits of the era and doesn't just rely on some intentionally cringe inducing punchlines. Ridin' - Chamilionaire Ft. Krayzie BoneCommenting on racial profiling before that was a trendy thing to do. Chamilionaire was from Huston but the song follows fairly orthodox hip-hop stylings and might have been one of the last "pure" Hip-Hop hits before the southern style really shook things up. What You Know - TIOne of the most grandiose hip hop songs of all time with a truly world conquering beat. This thing is the ringtone on my phone. WinnerCrazy
