"Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Ft. Ray Dalton

I'm hot and cold on Macklemore.  Hate the corny stuff like "Growing Up" and "Same Love" have little use for "Thrift Shop" but kind of like "White Walls" and absolutely love this one.  That piano intro is incredibly dope.
 
"Clarity" by Zedd Ft. Foxes

One of the best of the recent EDM hits feels like a really beautiful love song but also incorporates the electronic elements to great effect.

"Fuckin Problems" by A$AP Rocky FT. Drake, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar

A delightfully filthy posse track, a nice break from all the grandiosity of this year's hits and a nice response to all gentrified hip hop by the likes of Macklemore and solo Drake.

"Treasure" by Bruno Mars

I don't know how this guy manages to be so dreadful when he's singing maudlin ballads but so great when he's imitating retro music.  The guy's inability to establish a style of his own will be his downfall, but I'll take his old school R&B tributes just the same.  Locked Out of Heaven would also probably be a nominee if not for this.

"Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake

It took A LOT to get over the crimes against taste that this guy commited in the late 90s but what can I say, this is just a really amazing ballad.  Timbaland killed it JT killed it, the lyrics are nothing special but the song sounds damn good.

"Summer" by Calvin Harris

This was really the year of EDM, which is fortunate because pretty much everything on the radio outside of that trend seemed to be utter garbage.  This was the EDM jam that really seemed to stick around forever and never get old.  Love the way it essentially made the instrumentals the verses and the spoken word vocals the chorus, really captures the turbulence of a summer fling.


"Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake Ft. Lil Jon

Yeah, this is going to be playing in stadiums for a LONG time.  Just a really catchy and chaotic bit of wild club music that you can really bang your head to.

"Loyal" by Chris Brown Ft. Lil Wayne and Tyga

Yeah, don't bother lecturing me, I already know I'm going to hell for this one.  This is one of the catchiest bits of unrepentant misogyny to come along in a while.  The ideas being expressed here by a known domestic abuser are pretty repugnant but I can't help but kind of get swept away in the swagger of it all and the beat is tight. 

"Rather Be" by Clean Bandit Ft. Jess Glynne

A beautiful fusion of electronic music with orchestral instruments with simple if poinient lyrics sung by Jess Glynne.  Sweeping anthemic chorus, a hard song to dislike.

Latch by Disclosure Ft. Sam Smith

Sam Smith has a generally annoying voice but it can be channeled in good ways when he has the right collaborators and this up tempo song seemed to really work for him.  It's also one of those songs in the "Every Breath You Take" school of songs that seem romantic at first until you listen closer and realize they're actually kind of creepy stalker songs.
