Okay, I'm going to go through the last few recent years in 4 categories. Each category will have up to, but no more than, 3 nominees, with a winner from those declared. Feel free to post your own awards following the same format, and then bitch and complain about mine and other's choice. Awards are: Movie of the year -pretty straight forward Show of the year - will refer to seasons of tv shows which ended in that year. So for example, if Lost season 1 began in 2004 and ended in 2005 it is eligable for 2005. Good idea for a category, sorry if we're hijacking your thing Ian, but... Best Hit Song of 2010 (my criteria for "hit" being that it made the Billboard year end top 100 which is heavily tilted toward the earlier part of the year and technically includes a bunch of late 2009 songs but whatever) Nominees: All I do is Win- DJ Khaled Ft. T-Pain, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and Rick RossBest multi-rapper "posse" anthem of the year. Used T-Pain and Rick Ross right before everyone got sick of them, got to Ludacris right before he decided making movies was more profitable, Snoop Dogg seems to be putting in slightly more effort than usual. The Club Can't Handle Me- Flo Rida Ft.David GuettaGreat guilty pleasure track, Flo Rida was clearly a one trick pony but he's at his best here and Guetta's on fire. Really catchy. Empire State of Mind- Jay-Z Ft. Alicia KeysReally impressive how many hallmarks of the city's culture and history have been fit into five minutes, he also somehow got a blatant ecstasy reference past the censors in the third verse, you're a tricky man Mr. Carter. Meet Me Halfway- The Black Eyed PeasIt was easy to hate these guys by the end of the year, but they were able to pull something cool out of their pockets every once in a while and this was clearly their best song. Fergie actually provides a really good hook and that pulls things along despite some of the lyrical shortcomings in the verses. Only Girl (In the World)- RihannaThe media seems pretty entrenched in the notion of Beyonce as the queen of R&B of this era, but I've always preferred Rihanna. Usually she differentiates herself from the competition by having a slightly more provocative and streetwise edge but here she's singing a pretty straightforward if forceful love song and doing it quite well.
