Never thought they'd figure a way to have a character say Mission Impossible.

To be fair, getting through 30 minutes of this movie is pretty tough. It's the sad realization that there's still almost 2 hours to go.

It's pretty bad. Not in a painful way, but in a very boring, instantly forgettable way. A 5/10 is generous.

My letterboxd review from January:
My viewing of the Mission: Impossible series is so fucked. I started with Ghost Protocol, then watched the first film, then skipped to III, and now I'm ending with II. Keep in mind this is over the course of a few years. Anyway, this second entry directed by John Woo is definitely the most criticised of the series, and it probably is the worst. It's a shameless case of style over substance, the action is over blown, and the plot is a transparent rip off of Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious. And yet in spite of all this, I thought this was alright. The action was over-the-top, but I also thought it was fun. Woo knows how to shoot action and the quantity wasn't nearly as overwhelming as I expected it to be. Also, while the film does rip off Notorious, that's a pretty good template to steal from. No, this does not come anywhere near the psychological depth and sophistication of that classic, but it does lead to some suspenseful scenes and I'd say it works. The villains are a bit bland, but I did like some of the new characters, notably Thandie Newton and it was especially fun to see Anthony Hopkins. Anyway, I can't call this a good film, but it is a minor guilty pleasure for me, and put me in a mood to rewatch the others.

I got a phone call, I had to step away for a couple hours then I randomly hit the road for a few days. Maybe I'll complete this, Bond made me self-conscious.

I’ll finish what Doomsday started 3 years ago and live blog Mission Impossible 2, but first, Mission Impossible 1. I have something cooking in the oven, so I will be pausing in about 20 minutes. Don’t worry. I’m not gonna take a road trip afterwards.

The thing is, FALLOUT is just as twisty and turny as the first film, and yet, somehow I can tell you the plot in one viewing as opposed to the zillion times I've seen the first one (where I still have no clue what's going on.)

The clip selection in the intro is great. Danny Elfman’s version of the theme is great too... and probably the one modern audiences think of. The TV version is actually jazzy.

The plot to M:I-1 has been ripped off by succeeding spy movies. Basically the bad guys have the names of spies on the field and they need to recover it.
