Not a trainwreck and yet you gave it 1.5 stars. A trainwreck, to me, is either half a star or zero stars. One or one and a half is mainly just awful/bad. There HAS been a movie this year I've given zero stars to -- The Wedding Ringer. THAT is a trainwreck of a film from start to finish. Fantastic Four has a first 45-50 minutes that are halfway decent, albeit with a few missteps, but after that point, it just rapidly starts descending until it crashes and burns. So it still has a few things that keep it from being a monumental fuck-up, in my opinion.

For me, zero is reserved for Manos: Hands of Fate.

While I'm sure Fox will never release a directors cut of FF any time soon, I'm curious as to how much of the cut footage will make it onto the DVD/Bluray. I'd really like to see what we missed out on, even if it is presented out of context. If they choose to include the deleted scenes as bonus content, I would be sorely tempted to at least check it out from Redbox. Some decent fan edits could result from the footage being released as well.

Well, it wasn't fantastic. but at least they made Doom scary and powerful enough this time Doom was powerful until he suddenly forgot that he was. When he first showed up, heads were exploding left and right. When it came time to face off against the FF, no more heads a poppin'.

Most people love Star Wars, but even the biggest fans will admit that there's one big flaw that's difficult to ignore. There's a tiny hole in the Death Star that can destroy the whole thing. Wouldn't the Empire have... fixed that? It seems like that should have been their #1 priority - or at least a close #2. Nonetheless, people sweep it under the rug because by the time the movie ends, everything has been so much fun to watch that the flaws don't matter. Now if you flip the order of events and that hole is in the beginning of the movie, you lose the audience. And that's the key issue with the latest Fantastic Four. All the dumb and illogical things are exposed right away. It begins with a group of college kids building a transporter to another dimension. Why are these kids in charge of such a project? Even if they're super intelligent it doesn't change the fact that they lack wisdom. Adults need to be in charge. They can't just be "supervisors". And even if they can't be there at all times, there's a thing called security. The manager at McDonald's doesn't give the fry cook the combination to the safe, and yet, a group of college kids can just access a transporter unsupervised. Everything in the beginning of the movie is so idiotic that it just ruins everything that follows, even though what follows is actually pretty good. When the college kids travel to and from another dimension and become the Fantastic Four, the U.S. military turns them into weapons. That... makes sense. Yeah, you can argue that the Fantastic Four could simply use their powers to fight the military but these are scientists not soldiers. It's easier for them to just cooperate. Besides, isn't running away from the military the Hulk's thing? You can do the other side here. It's okay. Except it's not because everything that led to this was stupid. All they had to do was make the characters adults and everything would have been fine. Or if they REALLY wanted them to be young, find another way for them to get their powers. Just fix the first act before you move on to the rest. Now I know what you're thinking. LOTS of movies have a weak first act with a strong second and third act and it doesn't ruin the movie. It just hurts it. The problem here is that there isn't really a second or third act. The movie just abruptly ends. I know there was a lot of studio meddling and a lot of things were re-shot and deleted, but I can only discuss what I saw. I like the military angle. Dr. Doom is awesome. The music is great. But it all just kinda happens in 30 minutes. There is just a chain of events and not an actual story. So that combined with the first act leaves people unsatisfied. Could a Director's Cut redeem everything? Probably. Till then, all I can say is, better luck next time.

Between this and Ridiculous Six you have been scraping the bottom of the entertainment barrel recently.

Between this and Ridiculous Six you have been scraping the bottom of the entertainment barrel recently. Neither are as bad as their reputation. Blackhat and Poltergeist are worse. MAYBE even Terminator Genesis. I'll have to think about that one.

I have Blackhat in my Netflix queue. The completionist in me says "come on, it's the only Michael Mann you haven't seen, you gotta see it!" and the other part of me says "RUN!"
