Captain America: The Winter Soldier has great action scenes and a good spy story but I think Captain America is too bland and boring for these types of movies. Does anyone else agree? I think this would have been much better as a Nick Fury movie.

It's frankly my favourite Marvel movie to date, including Avengers and Iron Man. The Captain America from The Winter Soldier is a little shit and entertains me to no end. Whedon's Captain America is pretty bland though and I'm hoping the character doesn't regress come Avengers 2.
Anyway having said that, all my investment is in that franchise outside of the actual Avengers movies.

What? Chris Evans has given the same exact performance in all 3 movies he has appeared in. And personally, I felt it worked best in the original Captain America because he was perfect as a 1940's superhero. As a fish-out-of-water, he's not THAT good. Robert Downey as Iron Man is still the star of the Marvel universe and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner is a close second. If I were to rank overall performances and writing, I don't think Chris Evans would even make my Top 10.

The Captain America from The Winter Soldier is a little **** and entertains me to no end. Whedon's Captain America is pretty bland though and I'm hoping the character doesn't regress come Avengers 2. Chris Evans has been the saving grace of the character because he has made three different writing's of the character come together without it being a complete 180. In the first movie he's this dude with something to prove, who basically says 'your rules are adorable, i'm going to go ignore them now'. I mean he disregards every chain of command to run past enemy lines into a Hydra camp, by himself, to save his bestie. He's sassy as all hell: "you're taking all the stupid with you", "What happened to you? - I joined the army" Avengers comes along and all of sudden he's this 90 year old ho-humbug stick in the mud who is flabbergasted by technology. The only reason I can accept that shift is because technically Avengers is like a week and a half after his best friend died and he missed 70 years of his life (in his perspective). I can chalk it up to trauma. But this guy who disregarded direct orders to save his best friend, only to return with the sass of "I'd like to surrender myself for disciplinary action" in front of hundreds of POWs he just saved single-handed? Knowing full well they ain't gonna do ****. Doesn't sit right that he's cool with just accepted SHIELD and Fury's word on their Avengers/Tesseract intel. Especially in telling Tony that he shouldn't be snooping. But again, I can chalk that up to personal trauma and not getting along with Tony, since he does go snoop himself later. But after convincing and prompting. Doesn't sit right. And come Winter Soldier, he DOES become that person I anticipated. He is having none of Fury's **** and calls him on it repeatedly (Project Insight). He sasses back with Natasha and straight up ribs Sam Wilson (who had literally just met) like a champ: "if you wanna call that running". I'm not saying it's some horribly juxtaposed shift, I mean Chris Evans carried over the same expressions, gestures, and face (crazy huh? ) but it was definitely not the same character. Avengers felt very off to me and frankly I put that on the writing. That might have just been me. I'm hoping Whedon made Rogers intentionally ooc in Avengers due to his personal story. Winter Soldier Cap was THE cap to me. That is what he's supposed to be. I don't want him going back to grandpa mode come Avengers 2. Also not saying Evans is the greatest talent in the MCU either. He is the hottest though...no question Damn. This got long. And makes me sound like I hate The Avengers, which I sure as hell don't. Anyway, grand conclusion - Avengers was ooc for me.

I like Chris Evans as Captain America. I just don't think his version of the character works well in this type of movie. I wanted someone with more energy and emotion, and not a sass master.

Fair enough. For me, I felt he had plenty of energy but I agree on the emotion. He's more reserved than say Stark or Thor. I thought it fit well for an espionage, cold war vibe movie though.

I think Evans is great for the character. I actually think all four of the main cast choices (Rogers, Stark, Thor, Banner) are perfect.

I have a theory that Marvel breeds their actors in a lab. They're just suspiciously too good.

This is the real Marvel movie of 14, Guardians is such shit. I can't wait for people to watch it in the coming years, and realize, there really isn't much there. Good looking and (for some) "clever" writing. Other than that, Guardians is a big miss for me.

Finally got around to watching it and for once it's a Marvel movie that's as good as people say it is. I would say it's easily the strongest Marvel movie so far although I haven't seen Guardians of the Galaxy.

TWS is right up there in the MCU. How Marvel have held this together so well since 2008 and look even stronger with their upcoming line up is a great achievement. Their casting has been top notch. Evans is great as Cap.

Some of the action highlights were: - the fight on the ship - Nick Fury's car chase (and I normally dislike car chases, but there was more to it than just the chase) - the elevator
Ian's Nitpicks - Shield's futuristic gadgetry and tech: I really hate this stuff. Things like the "ground melter" the "face changer" etc. They feel out of place in a way that I can't quite put my finger on, and they are awful plot devices. They are such a catch-all deus ex machina that its a joke. This is the reason I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes of the SHIELD tv show.
- The climactic fight was a little drawn out - This is a problem I have with almost all action action movies. It might have something to do with the fact that I know where point B is at that point in the movie and its frustrating which it takes so many villains getting back on their feet and jumping back in the way to get there.
- The actual Winter Soldier - his back story, and the impact that follows from that, felt shoehorned in slightly. But he was cool in the fight scenes.
- I want to stress the gadgets again.
There, now that that's off my chest.. Winter Soldier. Its good. 8/10

Wow, that was tough just watching the honest trailer.
I've been hearing spectacular things about Civil War. I know people say it literally every time a new superhero comes out but this is already being discussed as Marvel's best movie to date. That shouldn't be a huge surprise since it's made by the same guys who made Winter Soldier which is currently the best Marvel movie to date.

Oh man, I might have to get very inebriated and watch that Captain America, though it looks really, really painful.
Yeah, I'm generally never excited for these films and I'm pretty pumped for Civil War. If it's that much better than Winter Solider, which I agree is the best of these recent Marvel films, then that's very exciting for sure.
