Just because Citizen Kane is #1 on the list doesn’t mean the AFI list only requires high art. Ultimately, AFI is just a group of old people listing their favorite movies. Those old people will die and get replaced by younger people that enjoy The Notebook just as much as their grandparents enjoyed Casablanca.
