Golden Gun should be awesome given its premise and Christopher Lee, but the execution stinks. Other than A View to a Kill and of course Moonraker, I consider it Moore's worst movie.

I don't think I've ever seen Never Say Never Again. If you've seen Thunderball, you've seen Never Say Never Again. They're based on the same book.

Yeah, but Thunderball is much better. Never Say Never Again just feels off, like it's not really a Bond film. Different music, different opening titles. All of that would be fine if the movie were actually good, but it sucks. Max Von Sydow plays Blofeld and Connery is back, but that's about the only highlights.

I don't think I've ever seen Never Say Never Again. If you've seen Thunderball, you've seen Never Say Never Again. They're based on the same book. They're based on the same book, and naturally, share the same plot but there are key differences. Thunderball is made in the mold of 60's James Bond movies. Sean Connery punches a drag queen. Austin Powers spoofed that. The villain has an eye patch. Austin Powers spoofed that as well. It's classic Bond. Never Say Never Again is an 80's movie that doesn't stray too much from what Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton did in that decade. When I was a kid, before the Internet, I didn't know this was an unofficial Bond movie. Yes, the lack of a gunbarrel opening, the lack of the James Bond theme and the different cast should have been a clue but this was around the time of Batman Returns and Batman Forever so it didn't seem that weird to me. If you watch these movies in chronological order, Never Say Never Again is sandwiched inbetween Octopussy and A View to a Kill. It really isn't THAT strange within context of the era and the state of Bond movies. Anyway, the other key difference is Sean Connery playing his age. The big subplot and character arc of the movie is James Bond getting too old for this shit. It plays out as one last mission. That's the opposite of where Roger Moore was at. If it bothers you that Roger Moore's age is never addressed in his latter installments, Never Say Never Again is the movie for you.

Someone keep an eye on Sean Connery. These James Bond actors are gonna start dropping like flies. We had a good run. 50+ years of actors alive. Superman fans weren't this fortunate. R.I.P. Roger. You were a great Bond when the material fitted your style.

Sean Connery, Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman were all born in 1930. Eastwood turns 87 in just a couple days. The clock's ticking.

Gene Hackman has done nothing since his Ray Romano masterpiece Welcome to Moosepoint. When he dies, people will be like, "wait! He was still alive?" Sean Connery will be the next to go, unfortunately. Last I heard he was a hermit pissing off his neighbors. Clint Eastwood still has juice left in him. He'll live to a hundred. If Bob Hope could do it, why not our boy Clint? Just replace movies with USO tours. There's purpose to live.
