John Barry's score and Christopher Walken are great. Rest of the movie sucks. Oh, the tire scene is kind of neat. Christopher Walken is fun in the first half...before he just becomes a typical Bond villain.

I'm running out of things to say 1. You didn't mention The Beach Boys in the pre-credit scene. Jibbs LOVES that scene. 2. You didn't mention Duran Duran. Dracula LOVES their song for this movie. 3. You didn't mention Grace Jones. Doomsday masturbates every time she's on screen. 4. You didn't mention the awesome action scene with the car breaking into pieces. PG Cooper loves that scene. 5. You didn't mention the ending on top of the Golden State Bridge. SnoBorderZero LOVES that scene. Is it opposite day?

Duran Duran's song is kinda catchy in an awful 80s music kind of way.

THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987)
With The Living Daylights, thus marks the beginning of Timothy Dalton's short-lived tenure as Bond, and...I liked it. And it's pretty easy to see why. Out of all the pre-Daniel Craig Bond films so far, The Living Daylights is the first to really scale things back to a certain degree in a way similar to that of the current films in the franchise, not to mention Dalton's portrayal of the character seems to be where Craig drew a lot of his inspiration. So, as you can imagine, this entry was up my alley.
First of all, The Living Daylights has what has to be one of the best, most tightly-constructed first half hour to forty-five minutes of any Bond film ever; this thing REALLY hits the ground running. The pre-credits sequence is fairly straightforward, but not overly lavish, but the stuff that comes immediately after the credits is pretty great. In that stretch, you've got Bond besting a sniper before trying to extradite a defector, only for that defector to get promptly taken back. This first portion never really lets up and is well-paced to the point where it immediately got me on board with this movie.
The Living Daylights also noticeably tones down the comedy from the Moore era, which I also appreciated and was obviously pretty refreshing. I've heard a lot of complaints from die-hard fans about this change in tone, but it's exactly what I needed -- and wanted -- after the last few installments. As for Dalton, I really like him as Bond. Like Daniel Craig, he's successful in combining the suave quality of Bond with a level of badassery that goes together oh so well. Plus, the film as a whole has a nice spy movie feel rather than the typical feel of a Bond film.
The most I've enjoyed an early Bond movie in a while.

No. "I scared The Living Daylights out of her." Damn it, MovieBuff. This is the last opportunity you had to mention John Barry.

John Barry's music honestly doesn't really stay with me. None of the Bond scores have, as a matter of fact, except for maybe parts of Casino Royale.

I prefer the faster-paced ones, and as you know, the majority of them are a bit slower. Off the top of my head, though, I really like the ones for Live and Let Die, Thunderball, GoldenEye and The Man With The Golden Gun. It's always a toss-up between You Know My Name and Skyfall for my favorite Bond song.
And I've listened to Writing's On The Wall; not a fan of it as of now.

Back in 2012, Jibbs and I voted this the best Bond song. Dracula was mad.

Eh. BTW, in all your infinite Bond knowledge, I have a question for you: why does On Her Majesty's Secret Service not have an actual song over its opening credits?

Eh. BTW, in all your infinite Bond knowledge, I have a question for you: why does On Her Majesty's Secret Service not have an actual song over its opening credits? 1. Because they saved the song for the "love montage". 2. Because it was the first James Bond movie without Sean Connery and they wanted to reassure audiences that this was the same James Bond they all knew and loved, so they used the opening credits to "recap" the previous films and a John Barry scored seemed more appropriate than a song.

In that stretch, you've got Bond besting a sniper before trying to extradite a defector, only for that defector to get promptly taken back. The reason you like that part so much is because it's taken nearly verbatim from Ian Fleming's short story which is basically that scene right through the "I scared the living daylights out of her" line. The rest of the movie was basically written around it.
