I used to be so hooked on WoW. I was never full blown nerd, I just played the games, did not read the books or attend conventions as my toon.
Not sure how I feel about the movie. The preview art and SDCC stuff looks great though. Maybe I am not excited about it because of the fear of getting hooked back into the game. Running a guild, tanking for our 10 man raid team, new quests and being the master of professions was just too much to ask of someone with a life.
Eh, probably a download when it comes out. Doubt I will see it in theaters but maybe.

We need a new movie fantasy franchise. We are getting comic book over load. Personally think Dragonlance be a better project idea but WOW likely has a bigger auidence to make money off of.

Im glad they least are getting actors who likely know how to handle weapons. Not every actor can catch sword and battle scenes like Viggo Mortensen did in LOTR.

Just watched the first full trailer. It looks impressive. Also got a friend at Blizzcon right now and he said this movie isn't just for those who play WoW. It takes place before the first RTS Warcraft game, which I was a huge fan of the RTS series. I think I'll be seeing it in the theatres.

Trailer was exactly what you'd expect from an adaptation of WoW. Duncan Jones' involvement had me intrigued at first but it feels like this falls into the 'one for them' category. Mute, on the other hand...

My problem is that it just doesn't look quite... right.
Video game cinematics can be pretty fun and even awesome at times, but they're only good on their own - not mixed in with live-action. As good as the CG has continued to get in video game cut scenes, 95% of the time you wouldn't ever say it looks like it could pass for real.
Maybe I'm just really picky. Reading through the YouTube comments, people apparently think the Orcs look amazing. Not to me, sadly, and that's my main issue at the moment. The CGI in this looks on par with video game cinematics, which is not a good thing if you're trying to make it a live-action film. It's distracting, and I'm actually pretty disappointed how ridiculously heavy this film has gone in that direction.
Apparently ILM is doing the visuals, which isn't surprising. They've churned out some awful looking effects in the past decade or so. I do wonder if they have smaller branches of their company that they use for a lesser expense, that only work so-so compared to other films (or devoting less people). I would have been really curious to see what a company like WETA would have done with a film like this.

Yeah, I dont think it looks too hot. The effects seem fine, but the movie itself looks eh.

Mortal Kombat continues its legacy of being the Citizen Kane of video game movies.

Really? You think Mortal Kombat is the best one? I believe you're forgetting about.....and surely....well shit, it is.

MK had the good fortune of being pre-irony.
It was the perfect adaptation of a shallow, stylish video game, as it itself was...shallow and stylish. There could be no complaints.
Funny how at the time we thought it was a purely mediocre movie and now we place it on a pedestal as the pinnacle of video game adaptations because of the dross that followed. Lolz.

Mortal Kombat had the good fortune of being released as the new school year started. I remember having endless conversations about it with friends at the playground. And that Blonde chick who played Sonya, what's her face who was also in Billy Madison, she was a major childhood crush.

Yeah but no-one knew any of these actors/actresses, aside from Lambert. That was the beauty of it.

This movie looks really meh. The storyline alone has me highly skeptical. Humans and Orcs, we're so different and can't coexist. But wait, the story will humanize both sides, and they'll realize that the real enemy... is racism, bro. This looks like a total clunker, and the visuals aren't interesting. Oh cool, massive CGI sets. I'm not saying this will be Dungeons and Dragons bad, but it doesn't look a whole lot better either.
