Confession: I've never seen Frenzy or Family Plot This is surprising. Any particulat reason or have you just not got around to them yet? Well, I started a little informal Hitchcock-athon of my own... several years ago. The plan was to watch all the Hitchcock movies in my collection in order, but I kept buying new Hitchcock movies that kept extending it, and getting distracted by my simultaneous Kurosawathon and Buster Keatonothon. Those two being the last films he made I just haven't gotten to them yet.

Also, how goes the Kurosawathon and the Keatonothon?

MWKTM was the most recent one I watched, but I watched Vertigo a bit out of order because there was a 70mm screening, NXNW is next but I'm also going to have to go back and watch The Lodger and Downhill at some point now that Criterion put them out. I just watched Throne of Blood for Kurosawa, so I guess The Lower Depths is next. With Keaton I'm up to Go West I think.

I did Keaton years ago. Everything except the talkie film from Warner Archive (which I watched years later), including short subjects (silents, Educational, and Colombia). Silent films are a breeze, after sound not so much.
While I haven't formally done a Kurosawa marathon, I used to watch them randomly when they were on Hulu. I've been stock piling them from Criterion since they were taken off since I enjoyed them so much.
I'm doing the same for Hitchcock. It seems every winter I breeze through a filmmaker's work that caught my interest. In the past four years I've done Buster Keaton, Steven Spielberg, Charlie Chaplin, and Harold Lloyd. I'm gearing up to do Hitchcock this year, which is a larger project than I'm used to doing, but we'll see if I can go the distance. I'm going to do something a bit differently with them and watch them by rating recommendation from IMDB. Watching filmmaking evolution is fun, but in case I drop it for something else at least I can get the best ones out of my system. Plus I really want to get to Rear Window and Vertigo, which have eluded me for years.

I've been meaning to do a Kurosawathon but I don't own nearly enough Blu-Rays of his. Have you seen Go West before? It probably is lesser Keaton but I had a lot of fun with it. The climax is neat. Hitchcock is rewarding, and while he has some duds, his best movies are so entertaining that it's very fun to marathon through em. Not sure what my next marathon might be. The girlfriend and I have talked about doing a Kubrickathon and possibly doing some podcasty stuff in relation to it, but with school being as busy as it is, we'll have to wait and see.

Personally I find going through a filmography tends to be easier if the filmmaking tends to be less heavy. This is why I leaned a lot into silent comedians in the past few years, because they're constantly inventive and often hilarious. Kubrick would be rough for me, because while I admire his technical skill I find that his overly calculated nature tends to leave me cold (Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove being the exception). I never regret watching his movies, I am just never hungry for more when I complete one. Kurosawa would be tricky because while I love his work, his dramatic filmography isn't something I overly crave. Once a week is probably doable, but when I marathon it's like a heavy fever dream of one or maybe two a night until everything is consumed and I'm either in afterglow or post-sexual regret.
Hitchcock seems more suitable to my marathon style, because while he does some heavy stuff he has quirks and thrives and surprising the audience. While maybe fifty films is daunting, I'll be happy to see how far I get.
Frank Capra has also been on my marathon radar for a long time, though tracking his work down can be a pain in the ass. I have a lot of the big ones, though others can be elusive or pricy. But one of these days I'll get there.

Confession: I've never seen Frenzy or Family Plot I haven't either. When it comes to Hitchcock, even when you've seen around twenty of his films there's still forty you haven't seen. Just haven't gotten around to them yet.

I just was recently told by a coworker that as a child she saw some of the location shooting for Vertigo. She said Jimmy Stewart was a sweetheart, Alfred Hitchcock was surprisingly friendly, and Kim Novak was a bitch.
I started my own Hitchcock marathon last week, but breaker a bit to work on more content for my shitty little blog. I've watched Psycho, Rear Window, Vertigo, North By Northwest, and Dial M for Murder so far. So far North By Northwest is still my favorite, though I loved Rear Window as well and I was more into Dial M than I thought I would be. I might watch Rebecca tonight, maybe Strangers on a Train if I have time, though it will likely have to wait for another night.
