TCL is a Chinese electronics company with all the cost cutting trade-offs you'd expect, among their many activities they are aparently the only company still manufacturing BlackBerrys in 2019. They also apparently now own Grauman's Chinese Theater for some reason. The TVs sounds like the kind of junk my parents would be foolish enough to buy, fail to even use HD image sources on, and then wonder why it breaks two years later.

They’re selling those big ass living room sets for $500. That don’t sound right. But they also have bedroom sets that are supposedly 4K for under $200. Also, what are your thoughts on Samsung? I’ve heard they’ve been on the decline. Any truth to that?

Samsung is certainly still competitive though along with Sony, and basically everyone else is aiming for more of a budget market. As an overall company Samsung is doing great, they're the second largest electronics company in the world behind only Apple.

Back in the 1080p era Samsung was top dog but I guess they’ve stumbled in 4K.

I haven't started looking into 4K yet. I'm reluctant to let go of my plasma. And my money is needed elsewhere at the moment.

It's great for gaming, but I don't really find it that necessary for movies or television. 1080p still looks good. If I hadn't picked up a PS4 Pro, I probably wouldn't have bothered upgrading. We still watch movies and TV just as much (more so really) on our older sets, while the 4K tv is used primarily for games.

I think it may simply be that the Targets in your area have recently installed self-checkout lanes. The ones in my area have had them for about a decade.

Do you even have contactless yet? Shambles. What do you mean? No cashiers? Most retailers and food places have been phasing out cashiers. If you mean the technology itself, like that proto Amazon store, it’s in the works.

The size and layout of the self checkout areas of Targets vary from one location to another. It also depends on whether it's a Target, or a Super Target.

It also depends on whether it's a Target, or a Super Target. Nah, dude. It’s not about store size. It’s about the number of self checkout machines versus the number of cashiers. Walmart has invested heavily in self checkout to the point that some stores are 95% self checkout. Target is starting to follow in those footsteps and are restructuring their stores to be more self checkout oriented. In 5 years cashiers aren’t gonna exist. Fast food has already eliminated them. Major retailers are next.

There's going to be cashiers around for as long as there are Baby Boomers. There are too many of them who just don't understand how technology works, and need a human being to interact with. The number of cashiers will certainly decrease, though.
I haven't noticed a significant removal of cashier from fast food places. The only one I know of that's moved in that direction is Little Caesars.

There's going to be cashiers around for as long as there are Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers don’t spend enough money for these giant corporations to care. McDonald’s doesn’t have cashiers - and the other chains will be getting there soon. Little Caesar’s is trying to be Gen-Z, like Panera Bread, and pushing for app-ordering/store pick-up. That’s fine & all but Gen-X and Millennials ain’t gonna be downloading an app for every food place we go to. And unlike Boomers, we have influence in the market. The norm is gonna be kiosk at the location or UberEats. And drive-thru of course.
