Just watched Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome for the very first time. For a movie I thought was going to be a turd I thought it was pretty good. Sure it's corny and they toned everything down about 5 levels but all that considered it's got some good sequences and fun action. It's certainly no Fury Road or Road Warrior but I probably liked it better than the first Mad Max. Welcome to the Club. |

Is that the consensus? I was always under the impression it was the crappy movie of the series. The consensus is: “it has children, so it’s bad.” But that ignores Bartertown, Tina Turner, Master Blaster, Thunderdome, Two Men Enter One Man Leaves and a pretty rad climactic action scene. |

I think Thunderdome is pretty plainly the weakest of the series but it's still cool.

I think Thunderdome is pretty plainly the weakest of the series but it's still cool. I’m with Doomsday. Mad Max is the weakest. I respect it on a filmmaking level, but it feels like the prototype for Road Warrior. It’s like Mariachi and Desperado. You can admire both, but only one feels like a real movie. And while you can nitpick Mexico, doesn’t change the fact that Johnny Depp as Agent Sands is a series highlight. Similar to Thunderdome in Thunderdome. And clearly, Boba Fett is the Fury Road of the franchise. |

Man this was already almost a decade ago, I remember sneaking multiple edibles before the movie and rushing off to the theater during rush hour with an ex who was, looking back, pretty extremely straight edge (she now dates a guy with my same first name who is apparently obsessed with spiders and reptiles). I remember her asking me if my contacts were bothering me as we stopped by Costco after. Of course babe they're just old.
Good times.
This was pre the Dolby theater in Pittsburgh and just about a year before I jumped on movie pass.
