"Stuck in space and needing to be rescued." I feel like I've seen this movie a few times already, now. I'm completely disinterested in this. Having read the novel, if I were to liken The Martian to any movie that's come before, it wouldn't be a sci-fi movie at all. It would be Castaway, except instead of being marooned on a lush tropical island with lots of food and water, a mild climate and a reasonable chance of making his way back home on a craft of his own devising, our protagonist is stranded in an endless desert with hardly any food or water, a violently deadly climate which is unforgiving of any mistake at the best of times and zero chance of escape of his own accord. |

Hopefully this is a step in the right direction for Ridley Scott and not another Exodus. Or Robin Hood. Or Counselor. Or Prometheus.

I finished reading the novel on Friday, and I gotta say, it's made me that much more excited for the film. I mean, the material's there, all Scott has to do is direct it well.
