I almost certainly won't get the job. That's okay though. Even if I did, unless the pay was next level great I'm not sure it would be worth it. What’s the name and address of the person who interviewed you?

I actually just applied for a teaching job in the U.S. New Jersey specifically. It's a little out of my league but the specialty they're looking for dovetails perfectly with both my MA and PhD research so I figured I'd shoot my shot. After yesterday I'm not sure I'd accept even if I was offered the position. I realize Jersey at least voted blue but still. I am genuinely scared of the idea of leaving. Probably a moot point as I doubt I'll even get an interview. Never been so grateful to be underqualified in my life. Edit: to clarify, this is not some "thank god I'm in Canada" smugness. There is a very high chance we elect our own conservative ghoul next year and I am fucking dreading that. But I feel a bit safer here with the foundations of home at least. You're a straight white man who watches professional wrestling... you wouldn't be first on the hit list.

I do hate all of the wrestlers who have endorsed Trump. I’m guessing you didn’t see who was on stage with Trump last night (early this morning). And I ain’t talking about Elon Musk.

This is perhaps the most shameful day in American history. I doubt Americans will tolerate 4 more years of Trump

He made huge gains everywhere. Yea zoomers love the machismo of captain bone spurs and Andrew taint but the gains went deep across all demographics.
This was all about the economy. Harris never explained the soft landing of inflation or explained what she would do differently if she got into office.
She ran a great campaign for 3 months but the baggage was way too much.

People don't understand the economy, so lie to them even when it's good. That's a takeaway of mine.

People don't understand the economy, so lie to them even when it's good. That's a takeaway of mine. You don’t have to lie to them. Trump had Obama’s economy. Biden had Trump’s. All Kamala had to say was, “the prices of eggs will go down. Just bear with me.” But as Bernie said, the democrats no longer cater to the working class. They’ll continue to lose elections. Even when we’ve had successes with Clinton and Obama, we still got fucked by the house and senate.

They’ll continue to lose elections. Every time we try to "cater to the working class" the working class freaks out and says they don't want "socialism." Working class real wages went up significantly (and faster than inflation) under Biden and "the working class" didn't bother to notice. This notion that "the working class" can be won through economic policies they clearly don't really understand or care about has been the fantasy of the Bernie wing forever despite constant evidence to the contrary. "The working class votes against their economic self interest" has been a refrain for a reason.

Those prices of eggs, eh. But don’t worry. I’ll fix it.” The response will be, “wait — you fix it? But you’re a commie!” I believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. The democrats can’t just ignore the economy. But they can’t also be 100% transparent either. Sounds like want a center-left democrat like Clinton. (edit: Bill not Hilary).

If those Republicans who decry a blue California hadn't left California, maybe California still wouldn't be so blue.

If those Republicans who decry a blue California hadn't left California, maybe California still wouldn't be so blue. You have 2026 to finish the job. Go get your Republican governor. Republicans are dead in CA. They have the inland counties but those Inyo and Shasta County rubes are vastly outnumbered by us on the coast. Looking from the inside out though it's almost strange to watch because Gavin Newsom is one of the most high profile governors in the country next to maybe Ron DeSantis, he's on the short list to be a 2028 Presidential nominee now that Kamala has been put out to pasture but it's funny to see Newsom all over the news all the time because he's is rabidly unpopular in the state despite the fact that he was elected, reelected and even survived a recall vote with flying colors. You don't have to look far to find people who can't stand him be it among Democrats or Republicans or anyone in between. There were some high profile ballot measures put up this year, chief among them Prop 36 which would increase penalties for theft and drug crimes basically undoing the progressive Prop 47, and that won overwhelmingly. Propositions to raise the minimum wage and repeal the ban on rent control went down in flames. George Gascon, our equally high profile Los Angeles DA, was completely annihilated in his reelection bid. I would imagine all of those would be detrimental to Newsom's White House prospects but you never know with voters, especially Democrats who aren't keeping an eye on California politics and are more swayed by brand recognition. The outcome of the election may indicate that people are moving away from the more progressive ideals but that doesn't mean Republicans are suddenly coming out of the woodwork. California's electoral votes are still comfortably in the hands of Democrats.

Aim small miss small can't run another woman again for the Dems. I've always said the right would win with a woman first and then we would never elect another one on either side. Still think that's the bet and I'll damn near guarantee it.
But can't miss next time gotta be a man.

During the primaries last year one of the things that Republicans kept saying was that Democrats had no bench other than Biden and Kamala and now both are off the table. They'll need to find someone who can go toe to toe potentially with JD Vance and thinking they can get away with just calling him weird and stupid won't cut it in 2028.
