4 days out.. how we feeling? A bit irritated. I did early voting in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020. But for 2024, suspiciously, the voting place in my area isn’t doing early voting. I have to go elsewhere. The fuck? And yes, I know, voting by mail is an option, but I don’t trust it. So yeah, the election is on Tuesday and I haven’t voted yet. I have till Sunday. We'll see. Maybe I get stuck voting with the old geezers on Tuesday.

Doing my part. Embarrassing to be a state that waffles back and forth honestly.
Trusting in women to carry this for us. Let's fucking go boys (but mainly girls).

How the fuck did we let a bunch of concern trolling at the New York Times nullify a primary? Yea this is wild that he did this. Pelosi took the bait and wants to play kingmaker - all the old guard Dems totally let this go down. And now bidens isolating alone with covid and making bad decisions. Embarrassing as always. I'm imagining an alternate universe where Biden drops out in 2022, then every time his successor had a bad day these same pundits freak out and say "OMG, bring back the guy with a proven track record of beating Trump, what are you fools doing?" and then today we have the chosen nominee stepping down and endorsing a renewed Biden re-election nomination. Democrats had 4 years to pick a successor. They’re asleep at the wheel. And Kamala ain’t beating Trump. Kamala is less likable than Hilary. I don't think that's true. Or at least I'd say the hatred for Hilary ran a lot stronger. Republicans had something like twenty five years to come up with bullshit reasons to "hate" Hilary, they haven't put the same kind of work into smearing Harris. They didn’t need 25 years. She got hate the moment her husband put her in charge of healthcare. Kamala was already known as a questionable D.A. during the 2020 election. They’ll just dig even deeper. Trump won the electoral college, the popular vote and the senate. Good luck to democrats and the house.

Lessons learned by the democrats are not going to be something like make no efforts to redistribute wealth or build jobs if there's a chance of temporary short term inflation.
Dear lord, the media was complicit in the republican economic narratives. This is bleak as hell.

I hate that one of the few things I'm clinging to is the knowledge that I will likely live to see the day Trump dies, and possibly Elon too. I am very aware this does not materially change the structural problems of the world but it will make me feel good when it happens.

I fear the right wing wave has only begun worldwide.
France seemingly up next. Canada prob gonna go right.
Not sure who else is on the docket but this populist right wing message is resonating worldwide.

This is perhaps the most shameful day in American history. And it's only going to get much, much worse.

This right wing nationalism is spreading like a virus around the world.

And you can really pinpoint where it has come from... Murdoch has long been rumored to have had ties with Russian gangsters and has been known to launder their shit.
The rise of Fox news as a whole has been driven by Putin to sow discord worldwide. And he has succeeded with flying colors.

And Russia goes through ostensibly left commentators to sow apathy as well (Jill Stein, Roger Waters, the Grayzone, mint Press News). Gotta keep fighting, but this is bleak, man.

If he makes it 4 years I'll be impressed. On the other hand, we have Hillbilly Elegy waiting in the wings. Elon isn't going anywhere for a while though, everyone's stuck with him.

I actually just applied for a teaching job in the U.S. New Jersey specifically. It's a little out of my league but the specialty they're looking for dovetails perfectly with both my MA and PhD research so I figured I'd shoot my shot. After yesterday I'm not sure I'd accept even if I was offered the position. I realize Jersey at least voted blue but still. I am genuinely scared of the idea of leaving. Probably a moot point as I doubt I'll even get an interview. Never been so grateful to be underqualified in my life.
Edit: to clarify, this is not some "thank god I'm in Canada" smugness. There is a very high chance we elect our own conservative ghoul next year and I am fucking dreading that. But I feel a bit safer here with the foundations of home at least.

I've been telling people though that this presents another opportunity for Democrats in 2026 and especially 2028 where the political map is much more in their favor. They have a lot of soul searching to do as a party after yesterday but once this train gets moving I doubt Americans will tolerate 4 more years of Trump and happily elect another Republican. And yes, New Jersey is a blue state so you would be in good company.

I realize Jersey at least voted blue but still. The voting count is 94% complete in New Jersey. Kamala (so far) has received 2 million votes (51.5%). Trump (so far) has received 1.8 million votes (46.5%). In 2020, Biden got 2.6 million votes and Trump got (wait for it) 1.8 million votes. In 2016, Trump got 1.6 million votes. Hilary got 2.1 million votes. Trump won the popular vote. In the last 32 years, the only Republicans to win the popular vote are George W. Bush in 2004 and now Trump in 2024. The people have spoken. This isn't electoral college bullshit. This country is fucked and has been. We went through 8 years of Ronald Reagan (plus 4 years of George HW Bush) that we are still feeling the consequences of. We went through 8 years of George W. Bush that we are still feeling the consequences of. And now we have 8 years of Trump to add to that. That's why I'm going to disagree with SnoBorderZero . This country lost its shame decades ago. People vote against their best interest out of ignorance and delusions. Once the democrats realize that they'll stop embarrassing themselves. I no longer have family in New Jersey, but still have friends there. You won't be in hick-town. Plus, you can cross the bridge and go hang out with donny . But as a Canadian, you'll be giving up a lot. This country is shit and it's only going to get worse. If you feel you'll get a great career boost (like Doomsday and his Baby Yoda money), then you have my blessing. Make your money, sir. But if you're just chasing a title, tread lightly. Plus, you'd be living in New Jersey. New Jersey! It could be worse. It could be Philly. But goddamn. (Don't cackle too loudly, frankyt. Y'all shit the bed too).

I almost certainly won't get the job. That's okay though. Even if I did, unless the pay was next level great I'm not sure it would be worth it.
