I didn't say they were equivalent, I'm saying that it's silly when either side instantly and incessantly goes to the extreme with their dumb descriptives. I'm sure we'll hear the 'socialist' label from the right for the next 4 years regardless of what little Biden is able to actually accomplish and before long we'll get to see the left twist themselves in knots trying to brand Nikki Haley and the other Republican candidates for President as Nazis and white supremacists, just like the turning of the earth. But as we've established no one was throwing invectives like that at Bush until he, you know, earned them. It was hardly instant or incessant until the dude started waging wars in the middle east. Instant? You're right, it wasn't. Incessant? It was. And if you're a Democrat, sure it's all justified. And if you're a Republican, they think any label they have for Obama is justified too regardless of whether it is or not and so on and so forth. My point is and has been that this is ultimately counterproductive and if anything only riles up the other side. In the last four days I've heard several people in the media say 'Trump may have lost but look at how many people voted for him. Bigots! Racists!' Who does that help? What do those doing the finger pointing hope to gain other than give more ammo to the people who are already licking their chops for 2022? It serves no other purpose, none. You're right, that's all they did. They did it to the point where they were hyperventilating about every single thing the guy did. Now you've done it, you're making me sound like I'm defending the guy but if you're someone who voted for Trump and you're seeing people in the media constantly gripe about him for four years and that the only people worse than Trump are the ones who support him I don't think you'd be open to hearing what the other side might have to say. And there's a vast difference between calling a guy something and calling his supporters, people you ideally would want voting with you and for your candidates, the exact same thing hence me bringing it up in my last post. I've said it before on here before and with people IRL and it's always met with immense pushback (naturally) but it's mindblowing, absolutely inexplicable, how some folks can't do the basic math that 'if we call people racists all the time, they might not vote for us. In fact, they might vote for someone awful. Someone like Donald Trump.' It completely escapes hard liberals but makes perfect sense to literally everybody else. Did you hear of that now infamous phone call between House Dems a couple days ago? There was that one woman who's name escapes me and I'm too lazy to look up who said something to the effect of 'we can't spend our time defending socialism and expect to win. We can't spend our time saying 'defund the police' and calling people bigots and expect not to get beat.' Most of America would read that and go 'yeah, no shit.' But of course she got flamed by AOC and other people in her party. I know that people think of themselves as 'standing up for justice' or whatever but the steadfast refusal of the hard left to acknowledge their role in getting Trump elected is, well, it's what got Trump elected. And yeah Biden beat him (barely) but those House, Senate and statehouse races all tell a different story. It's just funny whenever someone like me says 'If you want to court voters maybe don't call them racists' and the immediate answer is 'NO!' |
