You are? I spent the last hour and a half celebrating Trump's downfall by watching the original Ninja Turtles movie at the only theater that is still open in reasonable driving distance. I'm probably the least annoyed right now than I have been in four years. My plan for Saturday was a Goldfinger/TMNT double feature in theatres, but shitting on Trump took priority. Goldfinger wasn't at my theater. But I watched You Only Live Twice earlier this week, so I'm covered on Connery Bond. |

Look, if they Democrats didn't spend the last four years pointing out that Trump was a racist, corrupt, incompetent monster their base would have thought they were high. You can't just *not* say that the emperor has no clothes and frankly you need to yell a bit in order to be heard by people who don't spend every day following the ins and outs of politics. And in the case of Trump damn near anything you could say about him was going to be an understatement, he was that bad, and there are limits to how much you can live your life not calling spades spades. You're right, that's all they did. They did it to the point where they were hyperventilating about every single thing the guy did. Now you've done it, you're making me sound like I'm defending the guy but if you're someone who voted for Trump and you're seeing people in the media constantly gripe about him for four years and that the only people worse than Trump are the ones who support him I don't think you'd be open to hearing what the other side might have to say. And there's a vast difference between calling a guy something and calling his supporters, people you ideally would want voting with you and for your candidates, the exact same thing hence me bringing it up in my last post. I've said it before on here before and with people IRL and it's always met with immense pushback (naturally) but it's mindblowing, absolutely inexplicable, how some folks can't do the basic math that 'if we call people racists all the time, they might not vote for us. In fact, they might vote for someone awful. Someone like Donald Trump.' It completely escapes hard liberals but makes perfect sense to literally everybody else. Did you hear of that now infamous phone call between House Dems a couple days ago? There was that one woman who's name escapes me and I'm too lazy to look up who said something to the effect of 'we can't spend our time defending socialism and expect to win. We can't spend our time saying 'defund the police' and calling people bigots and expect not to get beat.' Most of America would read that and go 'yeah, no shit.' But of course she got flamed by AOC and other people in her party. I know that people think of themselves as 'standing up for justice' or whatever but the steadfast refusal of the hard left to acknowledge their role in getting Trump elected is, well, it's what got Trump elected. And yeah Biden beat him (barely) but those House, Senate and statehouse races all tell a different story. It's just funny whenever someone like me says 'If you want to court voters maybe don't call them racists' and the immediate answer is 'NO!' I should point out that 90% of what you're talking about is being done by online hot take writers and academics and not actual Democrat politicians (who are about as retrained and disciplined a lot as you can possibly expect). Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi are not running around shouting "fuck the police and proletariat of the world, unite!" and Bernie Sanders is noticeably not the party's candidate. I'm not sure what this "infamous phone call" you speak of is (I've kind of been avoiding a lot of news the last week or so because it was stressing me) but the strategy this lady is outlining is more or less exactly what the Democrats were running on. Are there some loudmouths out there? Sure. But you can't exactly expect every person who's vaguely affiliated with the left wing of American politics to be disciplined to the point where they aren't going to point out that the people voting for Mr. Build a Wall and Ban Muslims might be engaging in some racial animus. There's only so much denial that people are going to engage in. |
